1. LISTENING TO JAMS By: Alexia Rodriguez Anthropology 102
Professor Wolfe 3/5/2014
2. This is the first picture that was taken in the venue The
Troubadour in West Hollywood. As you can see it is an incredibly
small venue and everyone is very close to one another. This creates
a sort of family amongst us. I am typically the type of person who
is also attending shows like these. The best feeling is being able
to relate to strangers who share the same passion that you do and
connect as friends.
3. BREATHE CAROLINA! The sort of music that this band plays is
techno rock. The name is the band is Breathe Carolina. This was one
of the smallest venues I have ever seen them play at. The are such
a moving back and they are so energetic they pass that movement
onto the crowd. This has been the only type of concert I have ever
been exposed to besides seeing an Orchestra.
4. From the previous slide I mentioned that I have only seen
one other type of concert and it was Orchestra. These are two
completely different genres. In orchestra people are more kept to
themselves and dress very appropriate for the occasion. Whereas
when I attend these rock concerts there is a variety of uniqueness
among everyone there. They all have their own style of dressing and
shows you their personality in clothing. This is one of my favorite
pictures because it shows them in movement with their music.
5. This is actually my sister and we got to meet the band prior
to the show. And as you can see in the back in order for their fans
to be able to meet them they had to donate cans. They were helping
a good cause and spreading the word to their fans to do the same.
Breathe Carolina is always trying to involve their fans to help the
environment around them.
6. STYLE This is actually the vocalist of the band, David
Schmitt. I want to focus on the style that they have. As you can
see he is more covered in tattoos and has this sort of edgy feeling
to him. And in the previous slide you see Kyle Even, which is the
other vocalist of the band and he dresses differently. His style is
more conservative which I take because he is the oldest in the
band. And David expresses himself more with the artwork on his
body.
7. COMMUNITY It is a tight knit community when attending shows.
Everyone is aware of everyone in the room. If someone needs help
nobody ever hesitates to lend a hand. We treat each other like
family and if we get pushed down because the crowd starts dancing,
we get picked up by the same people. We are all there to enjoy the
music and that is what we do.
8. This is a different angle from inside the venue and you can
see that before I was on the balcony. But these shows arent
restricted on where you can move just as long as youre not
interrupting the set of the band. Those four individuals on top are
actually from a different band called the It Boys. They come to
support other bands and most of the time to enjoy time with their
friends and their fans.
9. This is the It Boys. The are a band that is barely starting
the music careers, so they are not widely known. But that is what
these small shows are for. They try to help these small bands tie
together with more known bands to give them a chance to play their
music and have a crowd.
10. This is a more closer look that I had throughout the show.
And I was able to witness something that not many people get to
witness. The bands guitarist Joshua was actually leaving the band
for personal reasons. You can see that people are recording this
moment because it is one that we as fans never want to see happen.
The emotion in this picture is amazing, it is a terribly loss for
the band and you can witness it from the embrace of the front man
to his dear friend.
11. This is actually from a recording that I took of the moment
and you can see again that they are giving him a moment for being
part of the bands journey.
