Barretos International Rodeo 2011(Barretos International Rodeo will be held in August 25th to 28th of August.)

BARRETOS ARENA

The rodeo in Barretos reached its 55th edition in 2010 and is known as the biggest event of its kind in Latin America. This traditional event attracted around 850 thousand visitors during the eleven days which is celebrated for gathering many cultural, sports, entertainment and gastronomical attractions and happened from the 19th to the 29th of August. This edition hosted the 18th Barretos International Rodeo, the National Barrel Racing Finals, the NBHA Barrel Racing World Cup, the National Steer Wrestling Association, the Barretos Rodeo Circuit and Team Penning compe-titions. The barrel racing had a total of 165 entries with Mariana Wiezel riding Oak Te TC as champion. Team penning had 1000 entries and steer wrestling with 40 entries.This year all attention was focused on the International Rodeo which gath-ered great competitors from around the world fighting for the title of Champi-on of the Barretos Rodeo and on the hundreds of musical concerts including an international act with Mariah Carey. In addition to the celebration of the 55 years of the rodeo, the Parque do Peão (site where the rodeo takes place) completed 25 years. There are 2 million m2 with a complete structure to host the rodeo, concerts, parades, ex-hibits, a commercial centre and many other attractions for people of all ages including an exclusive centre for kids, the Rancho do Peãozinho. The rodeo arena, designed by world renowned architect Oscar Niemey-er, is built in the shape of a horse shoe and has a seating capacity for 35 thousand people or a total capacity for 50 thousand people during concerts.

The entity was founded on July 15, 1955 and accomplished the first party in August of 1956. The idea of Os independentes spread for the whole country and now they are accomplished more thana thousand events a year. The cowboy party besides generates thousands of employments and to preserve the country culture made Barretos to be one of the cities more well known from Brazil. The permanent challenge is always accomplishing a better party than the year before and worse than the one of the following year. This, certainly, is one of the secrets of the success of the event.

Monument to the Cowboy: At 27 feet tall and about 170 tons, the huge Cowboy, designed by Valter Corsino and developed by the artist Juvenal Irene represents and honors all professional rodeo and is situated at the main entrance of the park.

The Little Cowboy Ranch: Country Disney. A complex of 30 thousand m2 makes the happiness of the children in the cowboy park. Here the child learns playing and the best is that everything is free.,

BARRETOS has tradition on its schedule international shows. The event has hosted names like Shakira (1997), Garth Brooks (1998), Alan Jackson (1999), Reba McEntire (2000), AHA (2001) and Mariah Carey (2010). BARRETOS will feature more than 100 concerts in 10 days of national programming to include a rodeo national and international competition and gastronomic and cultural attractions.
