Karos

• Karos is one of the oldest settlements of the Bodrogköz area. Its vicinity near river Bodrog has a rich flora and fauna with its hills and lakes.

• The village gained world fame due to The three graveyards from the pre-settlement age explored in Eperjesszög

• And the richest graveyards so far known in the Carpathian Basin from the Hungárián Settlement age were found on the ridge of hills running in a Western direction from the village in the first half of the XX century, and in the 1980-ies.

• Their memory has been pre-served by the ruins of the six Arpadian settlements found in the vicinity of the village.

• In the area of two of these, there were some archaeological excavations as well. The village was first mentioned in written sources in 1318, and its church was first mentioned in a charter dated in 1429.

• Since the excavations in the 1980th, the people have become interested in the history of the village more and more. This is probably the reason of the strengthening loyalty and adherence of not only the inhabitants of the village but also of those who by now have left the village.
