Hairdryer PeoplePretend some people are like HairdryersThey may not be good at making toastBut they are very good at drying hair

Toaster or Hairdryer

Both are wonderful and important

Autism is like thatNot all of us are made to be good at the same things

People who have autism just means their minds work a little differently.

Many famous people have Autism

Mozart

Even a few of your classmates have Autism

Let me tell you about one

My name is DeklanIm in the 1st grade

Autism may be a part of meBut its not all of me

I have a family

I love fishing

I can be silly

I love the outdoors

I am brave

I get to do fun things

I go on vacation

I am super smart

I even made it in the news paper

Let me help you understand me

(King Koopa)(Luigi)(Mario)

Sometimes my shoes bug my feetso I might take them off.

Sometimes I play with my food and make a big messOOPS!

Sometimes loud or irritating noises scare me so I might cover my ears or eyes.

Sometimes I get sad if I have to stop doing something I like

I really like soft pretty hair. If I touch yours, it must be really nice.

I might stand a little too close,it just means I want to be your friend.

I may not answer you if you ask me a question, I focus hard on what Im doing. Please keep trying.

I play by myself a lot, I would like to play with you but I dont always know how to ask.

I do lots of fun playing called therapy

I love to say lines from TV & games. Listen close I might be saying one you know too.

We may do things a little differently but I still want to be your friend.
