SHOPPING #SHOPPING#

The longest and best known shoppingstreet is Mariahilfer Strasse, situatedbetween the city centre and theWestbahnhof (West Station). Here are thelarge cheap chain stores with shoes, clothes and jewellery.

Don’t forget the side streets, such asNeubaugasse. Here you’ll find youngplayful fashions, plenty of comical T-shirts,handbags, gadgets and things from the60s and Manga or Hello Kitty style. Otherwell known shopping streets are Kärntner

Strasse, Graben and Kohlmarkt. These are,as well as several other inner city streets,traffic-free pedestrian precincts. In the MQmuseum complex there are several smallintriguing boutiques with clothes andaccessories from young designers.

If you prefer exclusive shopping, thefashion houses – the likes of Chanel, Gucci,Cartier, Louis Vuitton – are sometimescheek by jowl. In district 1 you’ll findArmani at Kohlmarkt 3, Gucci and Chanelat Kohlmarkt 5.

Vienna is the home city of the worldfamous designer Helmut Lang, and notsurprisingly he has his own shop withfashions for both men and women(Seilergasse 6. District 1).

The Freihaus district between Operngasseto Heumühlgasse has been compared tothe Latin Quarter in Paris or New York’sGreenwich Village. As a general rule, themain street in every Bezirk (district) hasmany shops. Remember to take cash, because not all shops accept cards.
