General Camp Information College for Kids (CFK) is open to kids who will enter grades 2 - 9 in the fall. Kids may attend one or two mini-camps during July 5-7. For the traditional program July 10-28, kids may attend mornings only (8:00-noon), afternoons only (12:30-4:30) or all day (8:00-4:30) for only one week or more. DATES and TUITION + $10 Registration Fee after June 3 Mini-camp Dates: Wednesday through Friday, July 5-7 CFK Dates: Monday through Friday, July 10-14, July 17-21, and July 24-28 Tuition for Each Week: First Child $65 for a half-day (8:00-noon or 12:30-4:30) and $130 for a full day; Additional Kids that share a parent or guardian are $45/half-day and $90/full-day. **There is an additional $12 book fee for Babysitting Basics.

REFUND POLICY Cancellations and requests for refunds must be received 7 days prior to the start of each class session. Students dismissed from the program due to disruptive behavior will not be eligible for a refund.

SCHOLARSHIPS—One Left as of June 15 Scholarships may be available to children on a first-come, first-served basis who meet the income guidelines for the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch Program. To apply, a copy of household 2016 income tax returns (p.1) must accompany the registration and application forms in lieau of payment. Only one scholarship per family will be awarded, but families may split the scholarship between siblings.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTRATION

One Registration Form and one Application must be submitted for each child along with full payment. The $10 Registration fee is waived for applications postmarked before June 4. The Schedule is your guide for selecting courses. It tells which courses are offered each week and at what time through the day.

Once courses have been selected from the Schedule, write them on the Registration Form. Double-check your courses to make sure they are offered in the timeframe that you have selected. Courses are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please include a second course choice in the event that your preferred class is not available.

Students will receive their schedule of classes in the last week of June. If you need or want to make changes to your schedule, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate changes. If you need to cancel some or all classes, please notify us at least 7 days before classes start so you meet the policy guideline for a full refund.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS FOR GRADES 4-5

Androids and Aliens Teacher: Lydia Matheny Attend an alien dinner party, design your own robot and travel through time in this activity-packed class! Learn about the world of steampunk and create your own “steam” engine. You’ll get closer to a galaxy far, far away than you ever have before!

Basic Drawing Teacher: Rick Hall Radical Rick teaches you how to make drawings using proportion and values to create realistic objects. You’ll also learn to deepen the contrast in your drawings to make them truly awesome. Gross Body Science Teacher: Erica Robbins Let’s face it; our bodies can be pretty gross with all that sweaty, gassy, skin-flaking nasty stuff that goes on! In this class, we’ll discover the science of what goes on behind the scenes in our bodies and explore the amazing feats our bodies perform! Spaceship CFK Teacher: Lydia Matheny The classroom will become our spaceship as we explore our solar system and beyond in this crash course on astronomy. You’ll make a rocket, test “Martian” soil for life, and see all the constellations while still indoors. You may even get a chance to talk to extraterrestrials before you return to Earth! Spanish Basics Teacher: Erica Robbins Whether you just want to learn a second language or plan to travel the world, this class will get you started! You’ll learn basic greetings and vocabulary like colors, animals, food and numbers—all while exploring the culture of several Spanish-speaking countries! Time Travel 101 Teacher: Alesha Sikes Hang on! We’re ripping a hole through the time-space continuum to jump back to ancient Rome and Greece where we’ll battle gladiators and Greek gods before heading back to modern times of technology and advancement. We’ll have time for one more jump before the week is out…I wonder what the future holds?? Tourist Extraordinaire Teacher: Erica Robbins Where in the world do you want to go? In this class, you’ll explore destinations and build an itinerary complete with city maps, restaurant menus, museum guides and

more! By the end of the week, you’ll be ready to plan the next family vacation—all while building unconventional reading skills and broadening phonic and fluency skills. Trivia Game Show Teacher: Kate Dillon Have you ever wanted to be on a game show like “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” or “Jeopardy!”? You’ll learn lots of new things everyday about history, literature, science, math and a whole bunch of other wild and random subjects while playing games- and winning prizes! You’ll even get to create your own game show, so put on your thinking cap and sharpen your game show host persona! Vikings: The Nomadic Norsemen Teacher: Lydia Matheny You’ll eat, dress and live as history’s favorite barbarians while learning about some of their beliefs, customs and way of life. Get to know the real Thor and Loki while you build swords and shields, play the Viking board game Hnefatafl, and learn how Vikings navigated their raiding ships hundreds of years ago. Become a Viking and explore the land of ice and snow without ever getting cold! (Viking raids not included.)

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS FOR GRADES 4-8 American Girls Cooking Party Teacher: Morgan Comnick Ever wanted to go back in time? Now you can while making awesome treats! You will learn recipes from the Colonial times, the age of the Pioneers, the Victorian era, and World War II. You also get to do time period games and crafts while cooking. Come join us to become an American Girl party planner! Avatar: The Last Airbender- Elemental Masters Teacher: Morgan Comnick Water. Fire. Earth. Air. Which Nation are you from? Are you a bender or a non-bender? What skills do you have to help Aang or Korra save the world? Find out in this class! Each day, we will discuss the history of one of the four nations and Republic City, practice stances from the martial arts they use, and do exciting games and cool crafts to show our pride. Grab your flying bison and soar over for some seriously epic Avatar nations training! Yip-yip! Babysitting Basics Teacher: Morgan Comnick Taking care of children is a big job; be prepared! Tweens and teens will learn how to start their own babysitting business. In addition to parent checklists, business cards and basic first aid, students walk away with a tote bag full of tricks to help kids cope with separation anxiety, bedtime, playtime, and emergencies. Don’t miss out on this wild time! Land of Samurais, Ninjas and Sushi Teacher: Morgan Comnick Konnichiwa! Take a trip to Japan without leaving Missouri, the land of samurais, ninjas, sushi, and creators of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragonball, Sailor Moon, and more epicness! Learn basic Japanese words and culture through cool activities from using chopsticks to candy sushi to watching anime, origami to kimonos to seeing real items from Japan! Made for beginners. Join the fun from the land of the rising sun! Sayonara Minna! Percy Jackson’s Mythology 101 Teacher: Morgan Comnick Love The Percy Jackson, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Trails of Apollo series? Well, come to the Park Hills Camp Half-Blood to learn about the Greek main Gods, Goddesses, and monsters through games and crafts, make ambrosia, and even go on your own heroic quest after discovering your godly powers! See you there Greek warrior! Percy Jackson’s Greek EXPLOSION Camp! Teacher: Morgan Comnick Think you know the Big 12 of Mount Olympus? Then the big and bold Camp Demi House is the next step in your path of the demigod! Minor Greek gods and goddess dubbed not important by Zeus, immortals, Titans, heroes, deities, and famous demigods are ready to have their legends told and experienced through awesome games and crafts. Lightning will strike and water will crash as we save the world from the newest prophesy. Answer the call, brave demigod; this camp is going to be a BLAST! **You need to have taken Percy Jackson 101 sometime in your College for Kids career before taking this class. Pikachu’s Pokemon Camp Teacher: Morgan Comnick Want to be a Pokemon Master? Get your pokeballs ready! Find your favorite Pokemon to form your team for battle (using all seven generations), play Pokemon games, make Pokemon inspired crafts (including your own Pokeball), learn some interesting facts about the series, and watch some electrifying Pikachu shorts. I choose you to come to this camp!

Animated Game Design Teacher: Cassandra Mills Using Bloxels game builder kits, you will design unique characters, learn how to animate graphic designs, build challenges and provide solutions with layouts and tell stories through challenges and story blocks. Designing games and animations builds computational thinking skills needed to be creators in the digital economy. Architectural Drawing Teacher: Rick Hall Learn the basics of linear perspective drawing while completing an architectural drawing. A real architect will teach you to use basic architectural tools like rulers, triangles, and compasses to create precision drawings. Cool Coding Teacher: Cassandra Mills In this hands-on class, you’ll get introduced to coding through coding commands in the Osmo coding game and will use color codes to control the Ozobot (robot). Youll use block codes to navigate the Dash and Dot robots and learn about algorithms through directed activities. Want to deepen your computational and problem-solving skills while coding video games and robots? Game on! Writer’s Workshop Teacher: Morgan Comnick Learn from a real writer, Morgan Straughan Comnick- author of Spirit Vision, what it’s like behind-the-scenes as an author-and what it takes to get published! In this class, you’ll explore different writing styles and famous writers while you create your own projects and stories. Using Mrs. Morgan’s book and your imagination, you’ll find writing a snap! To quote Spirit Vision, “Hold on to ‘what if’…’”

Amazing Animated Game Designers Teacher: Cassandra Mills How cool would it be to design your own video game? Most video games have story-lines, like Mario rescuing Princess Peach. In this class, you’ll come up with your own story and design your own characters using the Bloxels game-builder kit and create a game layout with challenges (like jumping over blocks or going through mazes). You’ll also learn how to animate pictures- and so much more!

Butterfly Extravaganza Teacher: Julie Niedert We all know butterflies are beautiful, but you probably didn’t know that some butterflies “taste” with their feet! You’ll not

only read and learn about fun, exciting, weird, and sometimes gross information about butterflies, you’ll also make beautiful crafts!

Cheerleading 101 Teacher: Julie Niedert Go! Fight! Win! Students in this course will cheer their hearts out while learning what it looks like to work as a team in order to achieve a positive goal. Friends and family are welcome to join us on Friday! Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead! Teacher: Kate Dillon Wild, mind-boggling science experiments abound in this hands-on class! We’ll trace experments through scientific inquiry- just like real scientists- while we get ooey and gooey, mixing things up and watching them change.

Magic Tree House: Twister on Tuesday Teacher: Julie Niedert A tornado will sweep our Magic Tree House back in time with Jack and Annie to the 1870’s where we will meet pioneers in the old, Wild West! We’ll learn how pioneers lived, play pioneer games- and maybe even make homemade ice cream! Come join us on an exciting whirlwind of fun activities and adventure!

Mythical Creatures, Gods and Legends of the World Teacher: Kate Dillon Monsters, dragons and giants, oh my! Travel the world to learn about the wild and legendary creatures of Norse, Native American, Egyptian, Celtic, Australian and Chinese cultures! We’ll take virtual tours of places around the world so it will look and feel like you’re actually there with kings, queens and heroes battling giants, serpents and more! You will earn trading cards to play in an epic Mythical game, too! You’ll want to collect ‘em all!

Soccer Camp Teacher: Kate Dillon Build your mad- soccer skills in this in this week- long camp! We’ll work on footwork, offense and defense skills and do some scrimmaging every day. You don’t have to be on a team to come play with

MINI-CAMPS for Grades 2-6

Wednesday through Friday, JULY 5-7 ADDra-kid-abra Grades 2-6: 8:00-12:00 $65 Mind read the number a spectator is thinking of! Instantly add a column of 4-digit numbers! Make balls travel mysteriously from 1 hand to another! Learn these tricks and more in our brand new camp, ADDra-Kid-Abra! The tricks are math-based. So while having fun learning magic, you'll hone your math skills as well! You'll get your own magic case and new props to put in it daily. Parents often receive a nightly show at home! You'll also learn out-of-the-box thinking math “betchas” to pull on your friends; math games; even a little math comedy as well! Camp culminates with campers starring in a mathemagic show for their families. Goals are to build math skills and excitement about math; to develop presentation skills and confidence; and to have fun!

Circus Stars Camp Grades 2-6: 12:30-4:30 $65 Walk on stilts! Ride a unicycle! Balance on a rolla bolla board! These are just a few of the exciting skills you'll learn in Circus Stars Camp! You'll learn juggling, plate spinning, clown acts, animal balloons, and much more! Plus we are introducing some brand new juggling and balancing skills this year! Camp culminates with the students performing an amazing circus for their family and friends!

I voluntarily agree to expressly assume all such risks which may result from the activity or in any way related to my child(ren)’s participation in the activity. In consideration of the right to participate in the activity, I hereby release from any legal liability Mineral Area College (MAC) and its trustees, employees, faculty, staff, agents, instructors and all individuals assisting with the activity for injury or death caused by or resulting from my child(ren)’s participation or in any way connected with my child(ren)’s participation in the activity, whether such injury or death was caused by the alleged negligence of MAC, another participant, or any other person or cause. This agreement will apply for each and every day my child(ren) engages in the activity during any of MAC’s 2017 summer camps on campus. I further agree to defend and indemnify MAC for loss or damage, including any that result from claims or lawsuits for personal injury, death, or personal property damage, relating to the activity or use of MAC facilities or equipment. The undersigned parent or guardian acknowledges that she/he is signing this agreement on behalf of a minor and that the minor shall be bound by the terms of the agreement. This agreement shall be binding on the participant’s assignees, subrogors, heirs, next of kin, executors and personal representatives. I authorize any person connected with the activity or MAC to administer first aid to my child(ren), as they deem necessary. I authorize medical and surgical care and transportation to a medical facility or hospital for treatment necessary for my child(ren)’s well-being, at my expense. I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS RELEASE OF LIABILITY AGREEMENT. BY REGISTERING MY CHILD IN THE PROGRAM, I VOLUNTARILY AGREE TO ITS TERMS.
