1. Introduction

1.1. Scope The :ApogeeX software can now handle JDF from DynaStrip. This document explains how you need to create a job in DynaStrip for outputting JDF to process correctly in :ApogeeX. It also gives a brief introduction on the use of DynaStrip.

1.2. DynaStrip requirements

Dynagram DynaStrip version 4.4.1 (Full version) or higher - Macintosh OS 9.2 or higher (with Carbon libraries 1.6 or higher) - Macintosh OS 10.2 or higher - Windows 2000 Server and Professional and Windows XP Professional EQAP test environment: Version 4.4.1 on Macintosh OS 10.3.9. Version 4.4.1 on Windows 2000 SP4 ApogeeX 2.5

2. Configuration

2.1. DynaStrip configuration 1. Share or mount a location where you want to save the JDF file. Make sure that it is accessible by the :ApogeeX server. Note: on Macintosh OSX you can use SMB or AFP to mount the volume. 2. DynaStrip makes it easy to create jobs because you can save all different settings (signature, pagination template, job description, signature definition, page definitions, etc.) in different libraries. The default location to save all settings is the ‘Documents’ folder of the user that is logged on. Therefore, it is advisable to specify a location where you keep all the custom libraries in different subfolders.

Note: This folder structure is used in this document.

2.2. :ApogeeX configuration No configuration settings are required with :ApogeeX Commercial or :ApogeeX Packaging. Make sure that you have a license to import/process JDF files. To import JDF files you need to create following flow:

The Impose TP should be set to ‘From Input’

3. Job creation in DynaStrip

3.1. Technical Terms A ‘Job’ contains all settings for a specific job and can be saved in the ‘Jobs’ folder. One of the settings in a job is the ‘DynaMo Job Profile’ which can be saved in the ‘DynaMo Job Profiles’ Library. A ‘DynaMo Job Profile’ contains all the layout settings, including the pagination sequence that can be re-used as a template in ‘DynaMo QuickLayout’ module. A job has an amount of sheets which can be saved in the ‘Sheet Definition’ Library. On each sheet you can place a Signature and/or Pages which can be saved respectively in the ‘Signature Definition’ and ‘Page Definition’ Library. You can also place marks on each sheet which can be saved in the ‘Marks Definition’ Library. When you created a complete job with sheets, pagination and bottling/fanning information, you can save this information into different templates. The job, sheets, pagination ad bottling/fanning information can be saved in the different ‘Template’ folders.

3.2. Job Creation for JDF output

1. Start a Job with ‘DynaMo QuickLayout’ Choose ‘File’, ‘New’, ‘DynaMo QuickLayout’ to start a new job based on a wizard. This is the easiest way to create a new job and therefore it will be used in this document.

There are also 3 other ways to start a job: - Choose File, Open to open an existing Job [Jobs folder] - Choose File, Import Job Layout to start a new job based on an existing Job Layout [Job

Templates folder] - Choose File, New, Standard Method to start a new job. You need to define the ‘Job

Description’ and then you start from an empty (clean) job.

3.3. Editing a Job

When you want to edit a job there are 3 parts in this main window. The ‘Tasks’ in the taskbar on the top, the ‘Objects’ selectable by clicking on the Object icon and the ‘Actions’ that are different depending on the selected Object. Note: All the actions behind these icons are also possible via the ‘Menu’ items from DynaStrip.

1. Objects Click the Object icon and select one of the Objects that you want to add/remove/edit.

2. Actions The behavior of the Action buttons is depending on the ‘Object’ that you have selected and the ‘Action’ that you want to do. Some buttons only contain ‘Settings’ (not really an action) and other buttons contain a real ‘Action’. This latter we can split up in buttons that need a click on the object in the ‘Design window’ and others have a pop up window to change their settings. You will notice that it takes some time before you can work effectively with these buttons. To make it easier we made a summary of the most important buttons:

this button contains the settings of an ‘Object’ that you can add with .

is used to remove an ‘Object’ and with this button you can edit an ‘Object’ .

and are used to move an ‘Object’ from a certain point or with specific values.

and are used to rotate an ‘Object’ with 90° or arbitrary.

is used to modify the gutter and to prevent creep on a page you can use .

is used to copy a sheet and with this one you disable it for output .

with this button you can manually paginate your pages.

and are used to show the page index in the ‘Design window’

and are used to Save/Load a Sheet Template [Sheet Templates folder]

and are used to Save/Load a Pagination Template [Pagination Templates folder]

and are used to Save/Load a Bottling and Fanning Template [Bottling_Fanning Templates folder] Note: Icons with a shadow like move and rotate will change the page only (without page marks).

3. Tasks The Tasks are used to specify the main job settings, source documents, view options, print and save options, etc. These are the most important tasks: 1. Job Definition information.

this button opens the ‘Job Definition information’ window where you can change the ‘General Information’ and ‘Pagination Sequences’ (Binding style, multiple web behavior, the amount of pages and some other binding settings).

The ‘Name’ in the Identification will be taken as ‘Order’ in :ApogeeX. The ‘Notes’ in the Identification will be taken as ‘Job’ in :ApogeeX.

2. Add Source Documents.

this button opens the ‘Source Documents & Imposition Index’ window where you can add your source documents and place them in your runlist.

- Click the ‘Add’ button in the ‘Documents’ section. Browse to the content files you want

to use. Click ‘Open’. Note: these content files should be on a shared or mounted location which is accessible by the :ApogeeX server. On Macintosh OSX you can use SMB or AFP to mount the volume. - Click the ‘Update’ button to ‘indexing’ the documents. At this moment DynaStrip

detects the data type of the content files, the amount of pages and colors in the content files.

- Click ‘OK’ for every color to add them to the color table. - Select the content files, in the ‘Documents List’ and click the ‘Add ’ button and then

close this window. 3. Apply Pagination Sequences

this button is used to automatically paginate added sheets. E.g. create a new job of 64 pages with one sheet 16 pages (front/back) paginated correctly. Then copy this sheet 3 times and you will have a 4 sheets each numbered from 1 to 16. Then use the button to repaginate the 4 sheets from 1 to 64.

3.4. Output to JDF

1. Choose ‘File’, ‘Print’.

2. Keep all settings as default only click on ‘Output Device’, click ‘New’ and enter a Name.

4. Choose the ‘JDF Options’.

- It is highly recommended to output the JDF file according to the settings in this screenshot. In this way the JDF file and the content/mark files are created according to the CIP4 functional specification. - Click ‘OK’. Note: It is possible to use ‘Absolute with server name’ on Macintosh OSX with ApogeeX but then you NEED to use the content files from an ‘AFP’ mounted volume. It is NOT possible to use ‘Absolute’ on Macintosh OSX with ApogeeX. 5. In ‘Destination’, browse to the shared or mounted location where you want to save the JDF. Make sure that it is accessible by the :ApogeeX server. Note: on Macintosh OSX you can use SMB or AFP to mount the volume. 6. Keep all other settings as default and click ‘OK’. 7. Click on ‘Save as default’ and ‘Print’. 8. Now you should be able to import these JDF files via the ‘JDFImport’ Hot Ticket. Note: DynaStrip generates at the root a ‘JDF’ file and a folder containing the ‘_MARKS.pdf’ file and the ‘content files’.
