Ancient History- Week 5

During the 18th dynasty of Egyptian history, we find a king named Amenhotep IV and his

wife Nefertiti.

He was the son of another pharaoh & lived perhaps only 2 generations after Moses & the Exodus.

Eloquent statues were made of his wife Nefertiti. She

was a beautiful woman

in Egyptian history.

Amenhotep IV was considered unusal compared to all the other rulers because he chose to worship one god. He actually

abolished the other Egyptian gods.

Some believe that Amenhotep II was actually the pharaoh during the Exodus. If they saw the miracles and wonders during Moses’ time, this may explain why they changed their belief

system! We do not know.

Unfortunately, they worshipped the sun god.

Many wall murals show them as loving each other. This was not common in many arranged marriages

One of their daughters married King Tut.

Born as Ankhesenpaaten and changed her name to Ankhesenamun after marriage.

After Amenhotep’s death, the country went back to worshipping many gods.

One of the most well known kings of Egypt was King Tut.

His full name was Tutankhamen.

He only lived to be about 18 years old.

He began to rule at age 8 or 9.

In 1922, An archeologist discovered King Tut’s grave completely untouched.

Great wealth and gold were buried in their tombs for them to have in their afterlife. But many of the tombs were robbed.

3,000 years after his death, his elaborate tomb was found.

One of the most famous pieces was the actual coffin of King Tut. It had 4 layers –the third being of pure gold!

There was a beautiful mask of the young king.

Other relics buried with him were boats, statues, models of homes, and even servant bones.

A mystery still surrounds why King Tut died so young. There are some that think he was murdered. When his wife was going to remarry—her fiancé was killed along the

way!
