Explanation of project goals and rationale

An Eco Green LifeBy Oliver Culver1DescriptionTo create designs for two eco friendly houseslocated on Long IslandI wanted to create two designs for houses that inter-structurally incorporated eco friendly technology. As well as draw up floor plans for them. These two houses were to be designed for somewhere on long island.2InspirationVirtual Spaces

Modernity Project

The inspiration for picking my project came from both virtual spaces class in my sophmore year with urban renenger and the modernity project of junior year.

Where I reconstructed virtually the senior building as well as many others around campous

Studied haussmanns influence architectually in paris/ world I reconstructed virtually the opera garnier which wasnt built by him but influenced3Senior building

Opera Garnier

Project Goals

Design two houses eco friendly

Create/learn hand drawn floor plans

Develop an estimated ROI (Return on investment)That I would be proud of

If I were to do an architecture project I need it to be legitimit so I needed to learn to draw floor plans

To make it seem more plausible6Designing Process Designing something I would live in

Comparing styles of architecture

Something aesthetically pleasing

Picking Green Technology

4. Why not wind? The output from the imput of energy from wind technology isnt as great as that of solar----- Meeting Notes (2/8/12 14:56) -----part of the design prosecc is picking green techology7First house

Solar Panels would go on the top! On a racking system

RapidRac

Sanyos----- Meeting Notes (2/8/12 14:56) -----if you notice the roof is flat8

Second house

Since the slant of the roof is twenty-one feet long and it is thirty-two feet wide with a 15 degree angle we would be able to fit four rows of twelve panels, meaning we can get forty-eight panels of the 220A modules.

This house will generate an estimated 13,500 KWH of yearly usage. ----- Meeting Notes (2/8/12 14:56) -----i followed the form follows function rule where the design helps with the function10

Project Goals

Create hand drawn floor plans

Develop an estimated ROI (Return on investment)Once I finished my design I needed to move onto floor plans12Floor Plan processArchitecture Class

Dimensions From Models

Editing

I was moving at the same pace as the class which lead me to a late start

Once I learned I needed the dimensions from my models

Editing- every time I thought I had a completed draft I would bring to ned, and he would somehow always see flaws that I didnt see.----- Meeting Notes (2/8/12 14:56) -----once i got the dimmensions the process was a lot easier until edditing13First House

Final Cost $19,798

The total system cost for these units would be $52,926LIPA will give a rebate of $17,000 the state will give $5,000and you will also get a federal tax credit of $10,500, so the final cost would be $19,798.

State Rebate

Federal Tax

Final Cost $21,536

The total system cost for these units would be $55,408 LIPA will give a rebate of $17,000the state will give $5,000, federal tax credit of $11,372Cost would be $21,536.

How to Draw a Floor Plan

Eco-Green TechnologyDuring the process of my project, I learned what I originally intended to learn,

how to design and construct buildings,

I learned about Eco-Green technology while learning about how to implement the technology into the structure of buildings.

I also learned about different styles of Architecture and what makes them significant.21In the futureCollege

After this project. persue this study in college

Electricity usage is measured in KWH (Kilowatt-hours) and the higher the PV (Photovoltaic) modules the more KWH we can generate.

First 9900 KWH of yearly usagesecond house will generate an estimated 13,500 KWH of yearly usage.
