First Graders Bake in the Spirit of Thanksgiving During the morning of November 23rd, the first graders were busy making banana bread from scratch. Thanks to several adult volunteers who either sent in the necessary ingredients or came in to run a group, our experience was a HUGE success. The students measured, mixed, and cleaned up with minimal help from their group leader. On Tuesday morning, all the students got together to feast on their bread and they delivered it to people around the school. What an awesome hands-on learning experience!!

First Grade News: Mrs. Ramczyk & Ms. Miller

Feliz Navidad from Our A-B First Graders As part of our Social Studies unit, the students learn about different holidays and traditions that are celebrated during this time of year. So, each of the first graders began to make their very own piñata on Monday, Nov. 23rd, with tremendous help from some great volunteers! This project will be our introduction to some of the holiday customs from Mexico, including Las Posadas. They will get to put on another newspaper layer, before decorating it with tissue paper in Art class with Mrs. Ritter. After the decorating is completed, the tops will be cut out to allow for the “goodies” to go inside! The students will then take home the finished product to decide what they would like to do with their creation.

BABES For the past three weeks, the second graders have enjoyed presentations from the BABES (Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies) volunteers on:

• Self-Image

• Peer Pressure/Decision Making/Bullying

• Asking for Help

• Feelings

• Coping Skills

• Alcohol and Drug Information Three volunteers visited each classroom six different times with their puppet friends to share a story with us about one of the topics listed above. After the story, there was discussion and an activity. We learned that we are in charge of our own decisions and no one can make us do something we don’t want to do, like hurt another person. We learned how to recognize and avoid peer pressure and bullying. We learned how to make the best out of a bad situation. Thank you so much to Chris Lane, Hazel Shulfer, and Betty Helbach for sharing this experience with us!

Second Grade News: Mrs. Blanke

Act Now! Bullying Stops With You That is the name of an online program our 5th-8th grades are beginning. The program discusses different types of bullying, how to recognize it, and how to deal with bullying situations. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin created the program, and offers resources and programs for children, parents, teachers, and caregivers to help keep kids healthy and safe. During the Act Now! Program, students will spend some time viewing online lessons, watching videos and playing educational games. The students will also be spending time participating in classroom activities that will allow them to practice the anti-bullying skills that they have learned in the online program. During or after the completion of this program could be an excellent opportunity to discuss some of these topics in greater depth with your child. Watch for some activities to come home with him/her which can provide a great opportunity for discussion.

On October 22nd the Almond-Bancroft School District and community gathered in support of Alondra Puente. Alondra had been experiencing health issues and, in support, Student Council organized a benefit for this little girl. Through charitable donations of time, energy, gift baskets, baked goods, and cash donations we have been able to raise $4,447.48! Student Council would like to extend a thank you for all of those who donated to, participated in, and helped organize the Peppin’ in Pink for Alondra benefit. Your support is greatly appreciated by not only Student Council, but the family as well. Your generosity truly makes a difference. Sincere thanks, Ariel Plaski, Student Council Secretary Cristy Ehlert, Student Council Advisor

Eagle Booster Club Holiday Invitational

Mark your calendars! On December 28th and 29th the Eagle Booster Club will be hosting our 7th Annual Holiday Invitational high

school basketball tournament. Games will start at 2:00pm each day with the final game beginning around 7:15 pm. We will be

hosting teams from Wisconsin Valley Lutheran, Marion, Carney-Nadeau (Michigan) and Manawa. The tournament will have Boys and Girls JV games in the East Gym and Boys and Girls Varsity games in the West Gym. On Monday the 28th, the A-B Girls Varsity and the JV Boys will play about 5:30 pm. That will be followed by the A-B Boys Varsity and the JV Girls around 7:15 pm.

A-B students will have free passes to the games. Otherwise, admission will be $5 per adult and $3 per student for an entire day. Kids 5 and under will get in free. There will be a 50/50 raffle and our "world-famous" concessions will be available. Please attend and show your support for our boys and girls basketball teams and the Eagle Booster Club!

Youth Basketball Teams

The Eagle Booster Club has already begun scheduling for 5th-8th grade boys and girls basketball teams. Coaches will be sending home information regarding the practice times and dates that have been scheduled for tournaments.

The tournaments in Almond will be as follows: January 9, 2016 - 7th and 8th grade boys tournament

January 16, 2016 - 7th and 8th grade girls tournament February 6, 2016 - 5th and 6th grade boys tournament

February 13, 2016 - 5th and 6th grade girls tournament

As we enter our busiest time of the year, we again invite everyone to join the Eagle Booster Club or volunteer to help with our tournaments. The proceeds from these youth basketball events are one of the primary reasons we can offer so many

opportunities to our student-athletes and help to provide our kids with the best equipment, facilities and experiences possible at

Almond-Bancroft Schools.

From the Desk of the School Nurse

My name is Brittany Plummer, and I am new to school nursing. This is an area of nursing that has always interested me, and I am excited to be here with you! I graduated from UW Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 and also with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders in 2007. My background includes working in the neonatal ICU, an adult critical care unit, and most recently I was part of starting a program at Marshfield Clinic in the Internal Medicine department. My husband works on the Spirit helicopter. I have 2 children in the Stevens Point school district and a son who will be 2 next week! Another important member of our family is our dog, Boscoe. He is a Boxer. In addition to Almond/Bancroft, I will also have hours at Washington, Roosevelt, and Rosholt schools. You may contact me via email [email protected]. If it is more urgent, contact me at 715-345-5753. I am in the process of putting together a weekly schedule and will post this as soon as I can.

Thank you! Brittany Plummer, RN, BSN, BS Public Health Nurse

Dear Families, Soon 2015 will be behind us and we will be starting a new year. I thank you for keeping your breakfast and lunch bills paid up. It is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contract Trina if you have any questions about your food service bills. Please take the time to talk with your student if you do not want them taking extra items during breakfast or lunch service. Many students are taking an extra juice along with the normal breakfast, this adds an additional .40 to the student breakfast price of $1.20. Middle and high school students also have the option to purchase an additional entrée item being served that day for a $1.00. Wishing you a Happy Holiday, Connie Kaehn, Teresa Gutke, Lynn Baird & Trina Warzynski
