Djanet or Ganat is a commune in the province of Illizi in Algeria. It is an oasisand is the main southeastern city of the Algerian Sahara, located 2300 km fromAlgiers not far from the Libya, near the Ghat Libyan oasis. Hoggar (Ahaggar from tamacheq, meaning "noble") is the namegiven to a mountainous massif of western Sahara in southernAlgeria. It covers an area of about 540,000 km2, which representsthe 1/4 of the total area of the country. Its highest peak, MountTahats in the center of Atakor reaches a height of 2918 meters.

Tamanrasset or (Arabic: تمنراست, Tifinagh: Tamanrasset, also known Tamenghest (Berber) FortLaperrine during French colonization, is a town in the province of Tamanrasset, which it is the countytown , located in the extreme south of Algeria, 1900 km south of Algiers, 450 km in a straight line to thesouthwest of Djanet and about 400 km north of the border with Mali.The city is particularly known for having been the residence of Charles de Foucauld Pilgrim desert.
