The Transport Sector in Algeria is in perpetual development, in particular to address the need for public transport, and address the problems of road congestion due to changes in the fleet, the Department of Transportation has completed the extension and modernization of urban transport across the country. Thus, the Algerian state spent over € than 10 billions euros for development of guided transport in Algeria over the past 10 years.

The Operating Company and realization of urban railway called "Algiers Metro," EPA / SPA, was founded in 1984, in his capacity as delegated project of the Ministry of Transport. It ensures the implementation of various urban transport projects such as the Metro, Tram and the cable cars across the country.

In order to ensure better management of tasks assigned to it, the Company has established a structure for monitoring and management of the achievements of all its projects in partnership with its subsidiary, the Office of studies urban Transport BETUR in the development of design and engineering for urban transport.

The Algiers Metro extends in its first phase from south east part to the center of algiers(hai El Badr ) to the main post office on a length of 9.5 km and serving a total of ten (10) stations: HEB -CMS-CAM-UFA-JES-HAM-AID KBK-May-TGP-all the stations are under ground execpt the terminus station(hai el badr) wich is at grade level

It basically has 14 air conditionned trains of 6 wagons from wich 11 trains rally, daily from 5 am to 11pm ,10 stations seven days at a rhythm of a train every 3 minutes at peak hours and a train every 5 minutes at normal hours, 02 trains kept for maintenance and 01 as a reserve train. In 26 months of operation, the line 1 Algiers Metro attendance reached 50 millions passengers.

• CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TUNNEL Double track tunnel - Tunnel Depth: 12 to 15 meters - Opening diameters of 8.80 to 9.40 meters - Distance between rail: 1435mm - The railway conventional, with a third rail to supply the rolling stock.

Composed of two items:

PCC : Centralized Control Station, from which there is centralization of all information pertaining to the smooth functioning of the Metro.

The CCO provides control, monitoring and traffic management of all trains on the line,

HVB: High Voltage, provides power to the entire line into electrical energy

The maintenance workshop Bachdjarrah erected on an area of 18 hectares, consists of infrastructure to ensure all activities related to the maintenance of rolling stock building-a major revision to the trains -a building for small daily review. -The Parking garages for trains. -a building for the ongoing maintenance of the trains. -The Station situated at the building is designed to control trains during technical tests at the test track and also control the movement of trains at all the complex maintenance
