2467 exchanges were reported

by the end of 1960, and 4232

by the end of 1970.

A landmark in AIESEC history

was the “International Theme

Programme” that officially

established all international,

regional, and local seminars on

grew to be a guideline for future

AIESEC generations.

In the 1990s, intranets called

Insight were established to

Failure; the stepping stone in my life

When I first heard about AIESEC GUC Newsletter I thought «I want to write, I want to share butwhat would I write that could possibly make any difference»Going back to October 2010 when I was first recruited. I can still remember Big Bang, my very 1stconference & how I fell in love immediately with the AIESEC culture. I joined as TM member & just took every opportunity that came my way to excel in my function. My Team Leader back then was the first one to encourage me & motivate me to achieve anything. Before I know its 3 months after my recruitment and I›m a TM Team Leader. I was a bit clueless, I wanted to achieve yet didn’t know how. I blamed it on everyone around me, my team & said they›re not motivated, my VP not being there for support, my parents not being understanding. I managed to find the cause of my failure everything but me.

Three months after I started out my TL term my VP quit AIESEC. I wanted to fill in her shoesknowing I had the potential yet never stopping to ask myself whether I can do it or not? I was too confident & I never looked at my mistakes. Before I know it I became TM Executive for the last 3 months of the term. Back then,

we had no LC culture, no learning, only DEMOTIVATION. I thoughtthe main challenge was having to motivate everyone. I had my team, my plan, wanted to achieve,and the result; Nothing! Well, this time I tried harder yet failed to achieve what I knew I can. Iconvinced myself that they›re just 3 months & they›ll pass one way or another. Blindly doing thesame mistake again, I blamed my failure on everyone around me that they weren›t supportiveenough and you just see how it goes.

After my term ended, I kept nagging about how I want to quit AIESEC, how I›ll be delighted tobecome an AIESEC GUC Alumnus, how I›ve had enough share of failures this year. I remember Omar Fawzi back then saying «Rudy, you›re problem is you›re too emotional, you let everything affect you & somehow you start losing yourself along the way». I thought no matter how much I try there›s no hope that I can change that about me.

Three months of being passive then came in NIC›12; THE conference that changed my life.Somehow everything made sense all over again. Despair changed into passion, commitment &persistence. I was the same but my actions were not. I became more open to feedback, took it &worked on it which gave me motive from within, to achieve &

become the better me. I learned afew things in life; Failure is just a stepping stone towards success, we only fail when we stop trying.Change comes from within. When YOU change, YOU can then change the world.

I wrote this not knowing whether it›ll make a difference or not. What I know is, without failure Iwouldn’t have achieved anything today. My hope is that everyone reading this, ever failed or everto fail would stop for a second and know by heart that it›s just a stepping stone towards a Betterthem.

The Beautiful Game

1 universe, 8 planets, 204 countries, 804 islands, 7 seas, 7 billion people and football is what’s in

common between them.

I love football. I love my passion for the badge and the color of my team. I love the pace, excitement

and unpredictability. I love the noise and electricity in the stadium. I love the face-paintings, the craze,

the roars, the deafening Vuvuzela and the mass singing/dancing.

I love the glory after winning, and the loyalty after defeat. I love how I scream my heart out when my

team scores, and how it keeps my heart racing for over an hour. I love the beauty of the game. I love

the collision of art, science, physics and magic.

There’s nothing like seeing the football nestle in the back of the net, or watching a brilliant tackle.

Nothing beats being blown away by a sublime piece of skill. You don’t have to be a football fan to have

your jaw drop at Maradona’s goal in 1986›s world cup or Cristiano Ronaldo›s brilliant footwork.

But what I love the most about football is that it brings people together. It doesn’t matter who you

are or where you’re from. All that matters is your undying love for the game. We experience the highs

and the lows, the majestic moments and heartbreak together. And for 90 minutes, you forget about

whatever might be going on in your life and enjoy the wondrous spectacle that is football.

And that’s only watching.

I think my love affair with football started in our backyard, where I started kicking a ball around as

soon as I started walking. Since our society isn’t exactly what you’d call a feminist one, no one was

supportive. But I’m not one to take no for an answer. So I played. And the more I did, the more I fell in

love.

It all goes too fast. For a fleeting moment, everything is blocked out, your attention drawn solely to the

ball. You block it all, the wind ruffling through your hair, the flexing and unflexing of your muscles, the

endorphin rush… It’s all drowned out. And nothing in the world makes me happier.

So why do I love this game? Because this game is life itself.

And God, do I love this life!

بس هم لسة موجودين في دوالب ذاكرتي يعني إن شاء اهلل .. ارجوك لو كنت مصمم تقلد الغرب في حاجة .. قلدهم في اعتزازهم بلغتهم يعني مش هنعيد املثال املكرر بتاع االملان إن كتير منهم بيبقوا بيعرفوا اجنليزي ومع ذلك مش بيحبوا يردوا باللغة دي على حد حتى لو كان بيكلمهم بيها يا إما بيشوروا يا إما

P بدل ال B ودي بتبقى مسرحية جانبية ملا حد ينطق كلمة ويحط ال مبعنى حرف بينطق بنفس نطق هذا احلرف ؟.. أل .. إًذا هو حرف غريب على لسانا وفي احلالة دي لو فكرنا Pالكرمي مثال حد قابله كلمة فيها حرف ال شوية هنالقي إن املفروض إننا نكون متسامحني مع بعض أكتر من كده شوية بخصوص احلرف ده بالذات .. زي بظبط ملا بنسمع أي اجنبي غير عربي ملا

بينطق ال د بدل ال ض أو ال س بدل ال ص أو ال ك بدل ال ق .. احلقيقة يا جماعة إن اللغة العربية هي لغة مش سهلة باملرة .. مش سهلة على العرب قبل ماتبقى مش سهلة على االجنبي .. يعني نفس الناس اللي بتزجنر قوي ملا بتسمع نطق لكلمة اجنبية خاطئ هم هم اللي مش بيعرفوا ينطقوا االلفاظ العربية

..بأسلوب صحيح ومع ذلك بتستعر من بعض االلفاظ العربية !! لألسف دي مأساه

يعني ممكن اقربلكم وجهة نظري شوية .. أنا كنت ناوي اسمي املقال ده بـعنوان »كرمن وكومنان وعبداملجد “ وكان قصدي من العنوان ده إن في حالة وبينطقها z بسيطة قوي مماثلة لكالمي موجودة في جامعتي .. كومنان هو دكتور فيزياء املاني وهذا الرجل زي معظم االملان عندهم مشاكل في نطق ال

s وال w بتبقى v وحروف تانية كتير بتبقى مش واضحة وأحيانا كتير فضيحة ال B وال P بتحصل معاه برده ومع ذلك مفيش طالب واحد علق عليه بأسلوب ساخر اللي هو ده تعليم مجاني وال الكالم التعبان ده .. بس كان في كالم كتير عن إننا ماشي مش فاهمني منه حاجة علشان كالمه مش واضح بس مش عشان هو يكسف وال جي من ورا اجلاموسة الكالم املؤسف اللي بنقوله على بعض احنا املصريني في املوضوع ده .. مثل آخر دكتورة كارمن وهي

فرنسية بس دي حالة لذيذة قوي .كل من تعامل معاها أجمع على إنها مش بتنطق حرف واحد سليم ومع ذلك محدش برده اتكلم عليها من ناحية إنها تعليمها مجاني وال حاجة من دي .. الكالم كله كان على إنها بتفهمنا احلقيقة بس كالمها مش واضح خالص .. تعالى بقى نشوف دكتور عبد املجيد عالم وهو راجل فاضل وفعال كل من عرفه على حق قال عليه إنه راجل موسوعة علمية بال حواجز .. الراجل الفاضل ده كل كالمه اللي باإلجنليزي أو معظمه في

بعافية شوية برده .. اتفرجوا بقى كام واحد اتريق على أسلوبه وعلى مخارج الفاظه مع إنه أصال أصال مش لغته وعادي يعني ملا Pوال B اخطاء وطبعا المني ِمك وَفِهّ َمك وَفِهّ .. ماينطقهاش زي ابن بلد أصل منشأ اللغة دي .. كفاية قوي إنه َفِهّ

القضية عندنا لألسف مش في فكرة النطق الغلط قد ما احنا مش بنحاول نزود من احترامنا لبعض أو نرفع من كرامة بعض كمصريني وكعرب .. يعني الزمن حكم علينا لألسف إن اللغة اإلجنليزية تبقى اللغة االولى في العالم ده مش معناه إنها تبقى االولى علَيّ كمصري أو كعربي أنا لَيّ لغتي االولى أتكلم

بيها اتنفس بيها لكن ملا آجي أتكلم مع واحد مش عربي- وُحط حتت مش عربي دي تسعة وتسعني خط – أبقى استخدم اللغة االولى في العالم وماله .. لكن ملا آجي أتكلم مع مصري أو عربي بصراحة عيب قوي ملا استعر من بعض االلفاظ العربي فاقوم ناطق باإلجنليزي ملجرد ان صوتها الطف أو ملجرد إن

املجتمع املصري في ظل النظام املتدني اللي كنا عايشني فيه اللي كان من ضمنه تعليم متدني برده خالنا قيمنا إن اللفظ االجنبي ده اشيك وإن اللي قدامنا.هيستشيكه

أنا بطلب طلب لكل مصري أو عربي بيقرأ املقال ده .. ارجوك حب لغتك شوية أكتر من كده وتيقن إنك دونا عن العالم كله بتتكلم بـلغة اتكتب بيها

A world in the making- an AIESECer building it!

“AIESEC GUC: First you become a part of it then it becomes a part of you.”

I wrote this statement back in 2010 during the elections period and

nothing has changed since.

For me, AIESEC GUC was never an extra-curricular activity or a part-

time role I serve in an organization; it has been and will always be a pillar

in the formulation of the person I am today, a place I can always run

back to and call my own, it will always be the one place I cannot turn

down a call of duty towards- my loyalty towards this particular stop in

my life never fails to amaze me by the day.

What’s authentic and great about AIESEC is that it’s quite normal for

a new member to look up to a 20 year old leader and call him a role

model! Because YES, that’s what we do, and that’s what we all are:

we are role models in the making and we are all aiming at changing the

world someday.

In my early days in AIESEC, I would typically take a look on our vision,

that is peace and fulfilment of human’s kind potential, and fail to

understand how could anyone possibly hold themselves responsible

to a vision so immense, a year after, I realized that this was the whole

beauty of it, acknowledging responsibility towards making the world

a more peaceful and a safer place to live in, where all cultures can

communicate and live together war/poverty/crime-free.

I’ve worked in the outgoing exchange department for 2 years as a

member, project manager and topped my experience with a Local

Committee Vice President term and I’ve witnessed change being

induced through the exchange experience my team and I enabled for

exchange participants, but I’ve also saw the change those exchange

participants created in the projects they worked on. It’s incredible how

a 20 year old can encourage a butterfly effect in someone’s life- I like

to think that the life he saved from HIV or illiteracy would grow up into

a scientist or a politician that would change the world as we know it!

You may find it silly, but I find it convincing, if I take a vow ad hold myself

accountable to changing the world I live in, my vision has to always stay

fresh and motivating.

ALUMNI STORY

What’s great about AIESEC GUC specifically is that it activates ambition

through contribution; it channels your aspirations into a resultant of

worth. My responsibility as an AIESECer is to do what’s right. Like it or

not, we stand for something. We set an example for others to follow

and if we don’t, then we’re no better than the people we are trying to

help get better.

AIESEC is your platform, so get out there, seize every chance because

nothing can stop you and the growth this place, you eventually find

a home in, is going to offer you is undeniably amazing. NOTHING

can stop you but YOURSELF- and nothing is truer than that. Since

I finished my term as Vice President I would take on every chance

possible, it only adds to the extension of my insight, the depth of my

intellect and it’s simply another block I add to the wall of the world I think

I deserve to live in!

When you filled this application to join AIESEC, you unknowingly took

an oath to become a change agent, so live up to this responsibility, take

AIESEC GUC to the place it deserves and activate the role of AIESEC in

your circle. My dream is for the day to come where I find all AIESECers

in Egypt aligned to the society they are trying to impact. Help me make

this dream come true. Help me help Egypt and help Egypt help the

world ☺

Being an “AIESECer” is the only label I would ever approve of. Once an

AIESECer, always an AIESECer- honour the label, it honours you!
