Committee Charter
Goal: “ Improve the global competitiveness of U. S. small to medium-size aerospace manufacturers in such a way that will benefit local, state, regional and national economic interests.”
General thrusts:● Promote “SBIR for Manufacturing”● Engage federal resources (NIST Manufacturing Engineering and
Extension Programs)● Identifying needs and resources focused to assist SMMs
improve their performance● Collaboration and coordination with national, regional and local
organizations, technical schools, colleges and universities.● Encourage support and membership for ASA● Develop position papers and identify policy issues

2011 Initiatives
SBIR for Manufacturing● A $2 billion a year program● Create direct channel from Manufacturers to SBIR
agencies● Generate topics for consideration by SBIR agencies
Initiative lead: Deb Santy – CT Manufacturing Standards at machine level
● A lot of time and money is spent by SMMs to convert CAD data to a digital production plan for their machines
● Rockwell-Collins to implement at a supplier
