DAY 1 FRI 28 OCTHOME - BAROSSA VALLEYMeet your tour leader at Sydney airport or join the group in Adelaide. Upon arrival we head to the Barossa Valley with lunch at Al-Ru Farm. There is a riot of colour from roses, self-sown poppies, irises and perennials and formal white garden through an archway of white wisteria and the rose “Devoniensis’. Check in for the next three nights at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort. Tonight dinner is included.

DAY 2 SAT 29 OCTBAROSSA VALLEYA day to explore the Barossa: one of the world’s great wine regions. We will start in Hamilton near Kapunda at Anlaby Station. Our lunch stop is Maggie Beer’s with time to browse her beautiful farm gate shop. Last is a wine tasting at Langmeil in Tanunda with its ancient vineyard.

DAY 3 SUN 30 OCTCLARE VALLEYTravel into the Clare Valley today to visit the ‘The Heritage Garden’ of well-known rosarian, Walter Duncan. Walter and his wife Kay will share lessons about growing roses, ways to use them in the garden and their best companion plants. Morning tea on arrival and lunch will be served in the garden..

DAY 4 MON 31 OCTBAROSSA - ADELAIDEBack to Adelaide with a coffee stop in the iris garden at Ashgrove with an incredible collection of iris. Close by nestles ‘The Cedars’ - the home for more than 50 years of the Heysen family. Our host will take us on a tour to discover the eucalypts, River Red gums and white gums that Hans Heysen painted that surround his home. Lunch in Hahndorf with time to explore this German-style village. Travel into Adelaide to our hotel in the city centre.

DAY 5 TUE 1 NOVADELAIDE HILLSThe garden of well loved TV gardener Sophie Thomson is our destination this morning. Sophie is passionate about plants and gardens. Here in the Adelaide Hills she has made a lovely garden tough enough to cope with her severe Mediterranean climate. Sophie will show us around and we’ll enjoy morning tea. Buccleuch is nearby, a large country garden on three levels with glorious shade trees and roses. DAY 6 WED 2 NOVADELAIDETwo beautiful gardens this morning. Carrick Hill is first, a grand Tudor style house. Roses play a large part in this garden with formal rose beds, and three separate rose gardens, one for Old Garden Roses, one for modern Hybrid Teas and the third is devoted to Alister Clark roses. A guided tour of the house and garden is included and morning tea. Free afternoon in Adelaide. Spend time at the Central Market in Victoria Square, a short walk from our hotel. It’s the largest undercover market of its kind in Australia.

DAY 7 THU 3 NOVADELAIDE - KANGAROO ISLANDDeparture to Cape Jervis for the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Stay the next three nights is Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat near Flinders Chase National Park. We will stop at Stokes Bay on the north coast to visit a virtuoso garden. It’s all native plants and it’s explored along several walks: the Blue Boronia Walk, the Grass Trigger-Plant Walk and the Hakea Walk. It’s a haven for birds and a smorgasbord of flowers. Dinner included tonight.

DAY 8 FRI 4 NOVKANGAROO ISLAND NATIONAL PARKSKangaroo Island is an unspoiled refuge famous for its pristine wilderness and wildlife. Kangaroos and Tamar wallabies abound across the island. Echidnas and goannas scuttle in the undergrowth and Koalas doze in the trees. Seals and sea-lions sunbake on the rocks. Today we’ll explore Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks in Flinders Chase National Park and take a picnic lunch with us.

DAY 9 SAT 5 NOVKANGAROO ISLANDGourmet food and wine are integral to the KI experience: cheeses, crayfish (marron), King George whiting. We’ll travel to the northern side of the island to see spectacular coastline and to Kingscote on Nepean Bay then Emu Bay. We will meet members of the KI garden club at lunch today. Farewell Dinner tonight in our hotel.

DAY 10 SUN 6 NOVKANGAROO ISLAND - HOMEA relaxed breakfast this morning before our departure to the ferry and across to the mainland. Lunch today at d’Arenberg Winery in McLaren Vale before we fly out of Adelaide later this afternoon.
