Noemi Nuñez, Class of ’13Bachelor of Science in Airport Management Air Traffic Control Program Brooklyn, New York

When Noemi Nuñez decided to add an airplane to her high school art project, she had no idea

that building a model aircraft would lead to Vaughn and a career in aviation. “It was a Cessna,

but I didn’t even know that at the time,” she says. To learn more about the aircraft, she contacted

Vaughn. Soon, she was reading all about the aviation industry. Although she was scared, she

switched career paths and came to Vaughn. “There’s no college like it in New York,” she says. “The

classes are clear, direct and apply exactly to the work you will be doing.” Although she hopes to

move on to air traffic control after graduation, in the meantime, she’s found a role at JFK in ground

traffic control, a position one of her Vaughn professors mentioned to her. “He knew me well from

several classes and wrote a recommendation that helped me get the interview.” And she’s still

making art—etchings and sculpture—that she hopes will win a spot in a show in Brooklyn.

Vaughn College academic programs provide a solid career foundation. Core courses include such subjects as English, calculus, physics, French, economics, American government, history, ethics, global civilization, American literature, sociology, psychology, Spanish, world literature, technology and culture, public speaking, technical writing and critical thinking.

Your career adventure starts strong with a degree from

Vaughn College: More than 92 percent of Vaughn College graduates are employed or

continue their education within one year of graduation. Look across the horizon, and you’ll

see compelling possibilities at well-known organizations, such as Lockheed Martin, Panasonic

Avionics, JetBlue Airways, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, American Airlines,

Boeing and Honeywell.

With a degree from Vaughn, you may find yourself with some of the most amazing career titles:

■n electrical engineer at Pratt & Whitney, building power plants in China

■n mechanical engineer, designing computer hardware for IBM or developing structural designs at Northrop Grumman

■n flight coordinator for FedEx

■n general manager of an international airport or industry-leading business

■n controls engineer in structural analysis at Embraer

■n computer graphic designer for NBC or Time Warner Cable

■n professional pilot with a major airline

■n controls engineer at Cummins Inc.

Wherever you go from Vaughn, your trajectory is UP.

Dedicated to Succeed

Michael Wroblewski, Class of ’13Bachelor of Science in Mechatronic Engineering Bronx, New York

After earning a degree in film production, Mike Wroblewski

chose Vaughn for engineering because he wanted concrete

skills that still called on his creativity. He expected the

classes to be challenging, and they have been, with plenty

of math and practical calculations. He also found small

classes and awesome professors. “That’s my favorite thing

about Vaughn,” he says. “They’re really helpful, even

outside of class.”

He also appreciates that mechatronics brings together

mechanical, electrical and computer engineering, so he

has a wide range of engineering preparation. Through the

Vaughn Robotics Club and the international VEX competition,

Mike knows robots, too, from the inside out. He and another

student built three robots for the competition; one of those

had to be taken apart and rebuilt twice. “For two people

building robots for the first time, we did OK.”

Mike looks forward to using his mechatronics and robotics

experience in biomedical engineering, to help people extend

their capabilities and improve mobility.

Vaughn Athletics: The Sky’s the LimitVaughn College’s men’s basketball team, the Warriors, compete in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, made

up of teams from four-year colleges in the metropolitan region. We have expanded our athletics program in the Conference to

include men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and co-ed cross country. The tennis team practices at the United States Tennis Association

while the soccer team practices at Flushing Meadows, the largest park in Queens. As we grow our athletics program, we know the

sky is truly the limit. On the horizon—full National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III status for all of our teams.

Yashoda Mohan, Class of ’15 Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology—AvionicsHollis, New York

Yashoda Mohan started at Vaughn as an aviation technology student in 2006. She returned to the college to

pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology—avionics. Given her passion for aviation, it’s no

surprise that she chose Vaughn twice. “This is where I want to be,” she says. “Although, after I graduate in 2015,

I am looking forward to working for Boeing or Lockheed Martin.” She appreciates the small class sizes that give

the students an opportunity to interact with the professors. “I would definitely recommend Vaughn to others.”5

Vaughn College is committed to providing you with a distinctive—and fulfilling—academic

experience. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new and better ways to enhance your

learning with initiatives aimed at promoting your success in the classroom and in the real world.

Collaborative SpiritCollaboration happens naturally at Vaughn College—between students, between students and faculty

and between faculty. That collaborative spirit is especially evident in our Learning Communities. We’ve

linked courses—mathematics and engineering, physics and history, and math and English—which are

then team taught by our faculty, exposing you to more viewpoints, increasing your critical thinking

skills and helping you view principles in more connected and engaging ways.

Supportive EnvironmentLet’s face it—subjects like math and science can be particularly challenging. At Vaughn, you will

have the support you need to be successful. In fact, the person sitting next to you in class might very

well be a student who’s already passed that class with flying colors and is there to help you succeed.

How? By reviewing materials outside of class with you and helping you work on difficult problems.

This approach has been shown to help strengthen your understanding of course materials, develop

effective study skills and improve your preparation for exams.

Creative ConnectionsSometimes it can be difficult to see how your learning

experiences relate. How does this course connect with

this community service activity and this internship to

bring you what you ultimately want—a successful future?

That’s why we’ve launched electronic portfolios, known as

“e-portfolios.” They’re a fun, dynamic way to help you gain

a full picture of your learning experiences at Vaughn and to

represent your professional self to future employers.
