Liverpool goes quackersover first ever Duck RaceA massive 40,000 ducks raced along a stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool canal for

charity in Liverpool’s first ever duck race, helping to raise £70,000 for Claire House

Hospice along the way.

Claire House Hospice cares for children with life limiting and life threatening illness

across the Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and The Isle of Man. Around 280

fundraisers ‘sold’ the ducks as sponsorship to abseil down the Liver Building.

Actor Paddy McGuinness started the race on the Pier Head and the 300 metre

course took some ducks 40 minutes to complete. Always keen to show full

support, A1TM’s MD, Simon Gilford was happy to abseil for the cause.

A1TM provided the traffic management in and around the area, having been

involved in the planning process from an early stage. A1TM’s close working

partnership with Joint Advisory Group and Safety Advisory Group helped in

obtaining relevant permissions and streamlined the process.

Over 50,000 people attended the third annual Cholmondeley Pageant of

Power in Cheshire, which proved to be a fabulous celebration of motoring,

powerboat racing and aerial displays, together with a Military Tattoo and

fireworks concert finale.

A1TM has been very busy this summer with the traffic management for the City

of Liverpool’s numerous large-scale outdoor events. Through July and August,

the free ‘On The Waterfront’ event drew massive crowds.

The first weekend included arts and culture performances including a ground-

breaking aerial spectacular and a world record attempt pirate muster.

The Albert Dock and Pier Head saw a celebration of music and movement for

the second weekend, with an international dance spectacular, with world

famous performances and a Chinese theme on the Sunday.

The events required road closures and diversions centred around the Pier Head

area for the duration of the weekend and as ever, the work was done on a

timely and accurate basis.

A wide variety of classic cars, pre-war

racing cars, vintage and classic

motorcycles took turns in racing around

the specially created track, running

through the stately home grounds of

Cholmondeley Castle.

Overhead, a steady stream of aerial

displays, including the Battle of Britain

Hurricane, Royal Navy Black Cat

helicopters and the Breitling Wing-

walkers’ display team gave the visitors

yet more entertainment to enjoy.

Following their outstanding performance

at Liverpool’s Pageant of Power taster

event, A1TM was commissioned to

design and implement the traffic

management for this ever-growing

extravaganza. They were highly praised

for their effort and commitment to safety.

Carnival. The October event saw spooky carnival bands, costumed dancers

and illuminated giant puppets followed by hundreds of people carrying their

handmade lanterns.
