"The doorstep scheme started off with chats and a drink with the first lady I met and then I would take her to see

her friends."She really enjoyed the freedom of having someone to drop her off and pick her up during the day when her

family were in work.”

Ann Jackson, volunteer

"The first patient couldn't really understand at first what I was doing visiting him as a complete stranger.

"But we would sit and recall past times and subsequently became friends and I'm proud to have been invited to his

funeral.”
