ACCLAMATION Celebrant Blessed be God, Creator, Son and Holy Spirit. People And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my

yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for

THE CONFESSION

Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Silence may be kept.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins

through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all

goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in

eternal life. Amen.

SONG OF PRAISE

COLLECT OF THE DAY

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE FIRST READING Jeremiah 22: 13-16

Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness,

and his upper rooms by injustice;

who makes his neighbours work for nothing,

and does not give them their wages;

who says, ‘I will build myself a spacious house

with large upper rooms’,

and who cuts out windows for it,

panelling it with cedar,

and painting it with vermilion.

Are you a king

because you compete in cedar?

Did not your father eat and drink

and do justice and righteousness?

Then it was well with him.

He judged the cause of the poor and needy;

then it was well.

Is not this to know me?

says the Lord.

Following the Lesson...

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people

Thanks be to God.

PSALM 148: 7 – 14

Praise the LORD from the earth, *

you sea-monsters and all deeps;

Fire and hail, snow and fog, *

tempestuous wind, doing his will;

RESPONSE

Mountains and all hills, *

fruit trees and all cedars;

Wild beasts and all cattle, *

creeping things and winged birds;

Kings of the earth and all peoples, *

princes and all rulers of the world;

Page 5: A Christ-Centered Community of Practice Awaking to the ......The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew Glory to you, Lord Christ. At that time Jesus said, ‘I

Young men and maidens, *

old and young together.

RESPONSE

Let them praise the Name of the LORD, *

for his Name only is exalted,

his splendor is over earth and heaven.

He has raised up strength for his people

and praise for all his loyal servants, *

the children of Israel, a people who are near him.

Hallelujah!

RESPONSE

THE SECOND READING Galatians 6: 14-18

May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything! As for those who will follow this rule—peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen.

Following the Lesson...

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people

Thanks be to God.

HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 11: 25-30

Preceding the Gospel...

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew Glory to you, Lord Christ.

At that time Jesus said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

Following the Gospel...

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

THE SERMON Adwoa Lewis-Wilson

After the sermon, a period of silence is kept

WE PRAY FOR GOD’S CREATION, FOR THE WORLD, AND FOR THE CHURCH

and for those who have died.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give God thanks and praise.

The Celebrant praises God for God’s creation and love. Then all sing the Sanctus together:

Page 8: A Christ-Centered Community of Practice Awaking to the ......The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew Glory to you, Lord Christ. At that time Jesus said, ‘I

The Presider recalls and makes present for all Jesus’ life and last supper.

The Presider asks the Holy Spirit to consecrate the bread and the wine to be God’s holy food.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say, People and Celebrant

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. . Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread.

Celebrant: We who are many are one Body;

People: For we all share one bread, one cup.

Dear God, we believe that you are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. We

love you above all things, and long for you in our souls. Since we cannot now receive you

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into our hearts. As though you have already come,

we embrace you and unite ourselves entirely to you; never permit us to be separated from you.

Amen. (St. Alphonsus de Liguori, 1696-1787)

PRAYER

Almighty God, giver of all good things,

we thank you for feeding us

with the spiritual food of your presence

which unites us to you and to one another.

Keep us steadfast in your holy fellowship.

and give us the grace to offer ourselves wholly,

all that we have and all that we are,

to serve you faithfully in the world,

through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,

to whom with you and the Holy Spirit

be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

front of cameras, or barked in the background. Few things bring such uncomplicated joy

into our lives as our pets. We will gather to share stories of how our pets, both past and

present, have enriched our lives. Led by Nancy Ames -- parishioner, Vestry member, and

animal lover.

To enter the Forum meeting on Sunday morning, go to the link on the church website,

experience.

with masks (except young children).

• Pray for sun….No gathering if it rains.

• This is our chance to see each other in person before the weather gets too cold!

LECTIONARY BIBLE STUDY BEGINS OCTOBER 14: On Wednesday, October 14 from

5:45 – 7 pm, we will begin a lectionary-based Bible study on Zoom. Our time will be bracketed with

song and prayer from the Sunday services; the main goals are to grow in biblical literacy, to become

disciples of the text who study to be transformed regardless of how we interpret, and to deepen

fellowship through open sharing. No prior biblical knowledge or sign up is required. All are

welcome for occasional or ongoing participation. Over time, long-term participants will be shaped

by the joys of mutual encouragement to live into the Gospel and awareness of how our faith life is

shaped by the liturgical rhythms of the church in Scripture. If you are interested in more

information, please contact adwoa at [email protected] or call her at 254-6048, ext
