AHIJAH WARNS JEROBOAM(I KINGS 1415)

ldquoI warned Israelrsquos first king Jeroboam that the Lord would strike the northern kingdom as a reed is shaken in the water God swore He would uproot Israel from the land Assyria would carry them off for they had provoked the Lord by bowing down to pagan Asherimrdquo

northern kingdomrsquos population

JEREMIAH WARNS JUDAH(JEREMIAH 2512 2910)

ldquoGod made it my duty to warn the southern kingdom Judah that King Nebuchadnezzar would move against Judah and make the land a desolation Judah had learned nothing from her sisterrsquos example They would be in exile for 70 years and then God would bring them backrdquo

And King Nebuchadnezzar does precisely that Judah Daniel and Ezekiel included spend 70 years in Babylonian exile before returning under the Persians

I counted out Jeremiahrsquos 70 years of captivityndashI did I prayed to God and confessed the sins of my people I knew God acted righteously in punishing Judah for her failure to obey His voice but the 70 years are almost over

The 70 Weeks prophetically announce Godrsquos purposes for national Israel and sets a time frame for accomplishing them I easily apply this Jewish timeline to the Church as well I also believe that the goals themselves will have real expressions in the life of both Godrsquos redemptive lines that of the Church and that of Israel

IMHO Given the Jewish context here we deal with national Israelrsquos long history of unfaithfulness to her covenant with God We may well see that history of failure ended and a heart for faithfulness developed before the 70 weeks end

IMHO For Christians only the life death and resurrection of the Messiah will meet this goalrsquos demands The Messiahrsquos death does get mention within the prophecy strengthening my certainty of this assignment But I wonder if national Israelrsquos sinful rejection of Jesus will also end

IMHO This sharpens the focus of the previous elementrsquos more general scope HOW will sin come to an end Through Jesusrsquo atonement on the cross His sacrificial atonement Yet does this atonement express its power in the context of national Israelrsquos need for a sin covering

IMHO Here we must reach to the return of Jesus Christ Can the Jewish timeline really reach that far from Danielrsquos time Do the Jews as a race play a part in securing everlasting righteousness for more than their own race

IMHO Paul tells us one day prophecy will end Joel celebrates an outbreak of intense visioning and dreaming right to the end Gabriel tells us vision and prophecy have a 70 week run in Godrsquos plan for the Jews and us as well

IMHO Here we have a clear reference to the temple center of Jewish worship Its lsquoanointingrsquo in this context takes on well apocalyptic overtones Will we find a temple for God anoint at the end of Jewish history (Hint Check Ezekiel 40+)

Jews traditionally calculate a year as having 12-30 day months They used a lunar calendarSuch a count reflects Genesis 71124 and 814 where 5 months = 150 daysSuch a count makes consistent sense of numerous prophetic calculations in which 3 12 years=42 months=1260 days=times time and half a time

After the 62 week period Messiah cut off has nothing

lsquoPeople of prince who is to comersquo destroys holy city

Cityrsquos destruction comes wardesolation will exist until the end

70 WEEKS 7 EVENTS(EVENTS 5-7 = 70TH WEEK)

Prince who is to come makes covenant for one week

Mid-week he puts an end to grain offering

One comes on lsquowings of abominationrsquo to make desolate until a complete destruction pours out on the desolator

ldquoNo wonder I fell down weak and speechless

wondering how long it would be until the end of

these wondersrdquo (Daniel)

Violence presses the Jews to the brink of

extinction as they approach end of the

Indignation How does God achieve His twin

aims turning the Jews to Christ and

preserving their existence
