7 th Grade Summer Reading – Quail Hollow Middle School Dear Rising 7 th graders and families, You have done much work as a 6 th grader and you deserve your summer break during which you will recharge and prepare yourselves for your next step! As you enjoy your summer, remember that reading great books not only helps pass the time, but it also helps maintain all of the reading growth you have had this year. The novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio is not only a great, enjoyable read, but it provides an opportunity for you to reflect on your school experiences both in elementary and in middle school so far! August, the main character, could be you, a family member, or a friend. You might relate to him or not, but he can teach us all about acceptance of ourselves and others and our transitions through the different parts of our lives. As you are enjoying your summer break, take time to read the novel. As you read, complete the signpost chart and the questions that are included on Google Classroom (code below)! Your answers should be in complete sentences and your textual evidence should include quotation marks and page numbers. We have included a sample excellent response for you. This novel will be the mentor text for our first unit of study in 7 th grade so it is important that you read it and complete the assignment carefully! This packet (turned in through Google Classroom online or printed out) is due on Friday, September 1, 2017.
