PX3 Intelligent Rack PDU Introducing Raritan’s 3rd Generation

Page 3: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

Raritan’s PX® intelligent rack PDU series offers more than just power distribution -- it’s a launch pad for real-time remote power monitoring, environmental sensors, data center infrastructure management, and so much more.

Relays Require Less Power and Produce Less Heat

Latching bistable relays only require power to switch from one state

to another so PDUs consume 67% less energy, produce less heat, and

return to pre-outage state with patent-pending outlet sequencing

technology that minimize inrush current.

Reason #1: Energy Efficient Latching Relays

Page 5: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

User Configurable Power on Sequencing

• Last known state or outlet sequenced power on.

Last Known State

• Relay state remains the same as before power loss.

Latching Relay Behavior

• Latching Relays do NOT require power to keep their contacts

closed.

Reason #2: Patent-Pending Outlet Sequencing

Intelligent Replaceable Controller

• Flush mount controller with industrial grade reliability, configurable

firmware, and hot swap capability.

• In the unlikely event of a malfunction you’ll be able to replace it

without having to interrupt any business critical services!

Reason #3: High Quality Standards

Page 7: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

Brilliant Color Display

• Highest on-board resolution in the industry at 220x176 that’s easy

to read and navigate. A built-in accelerometer enables the display

to change orientation automatically facilitating installation. Controls

are simple and intuitive.

Reason #3: High Quality Standards

Page 8: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

kWh Metering

• New metering chip and power metering firmware for greater

accuracy. Accuracy over the entire range of measurement.

• Accurate kWh metering allows you to measure actual power usage

for accurate customer or department charge-back billing.

• The data can be used to encourage energy efficient behavior

among users, establish power consumption baselines, and analyze

the effect of efficiency initiatives.

Reason #4: Best-in-Class Design

Low Profile Flush Mount Circuit Breakers

• Prevents blocking rack space and eliminates doghouse allowing

usage along length of PDU.

• Circuit breakers eliminate the need to stock fuses, have licensed

electricians change fuses, and the possibility of installing an

incorrect fuse compromising safety and voiding product warranties.

Reason #4: Best-in-Class Design

One More Magical USB Port

• Customers love our USB capabilities so much that we added

another port.

• Multiple USB ports allow for Wi-Fi networking, cascading (daisy

chaining), quick setup, firmware upgrades, security cams, and a

remote display. Ports can also be disabled for security.

• Customers eliminate network infrastructure costs, save time on

deployment and upgrades, and add an additional layer of physical

security.

Reason #4: Best-in-Class Design

Custom Mechanical Design

• We use 3D modeling tools to create the perfect fit for your rack

with space-saving Zero U, 1U, 2U, and 3U form factors that provide

unobstructed access to your rack for faster service calls, equipment

changes, and deploying newly provisioned equipment.

Reason #5: It Solves Practical Problems

We Support Dense, High Power Racks

• We offer a broad range of 400V three-phase high power models

that support up to 55kW per rack PDU. Running higher voltages at

lower currents means smaller and fewer cables, which use less

copper, weigh less, occupy less space, and cost less.

Reason #5: It Solves Practical Problems

Page 13: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

We Support Dense, High Power Racks

• We support a maximum operating temperature of up to 60°C /

140°F for reliable performance in dense high-heat environments so

you can rest assured that they’ll continue to operate reliably in the

harshest of conditions.

Reason #5: It Solves Practical Problems

Quick Setup and Upgrades

• Use ordinary USB sticks to configure hundreds of PDU’s in mere

minutes. Save big on deployment time and costs.

Reason #5: It Solves Practical Problems

Full Color Chassis

• Available in ten colors that help reduce errors, and make it easier to

identify power feeds, and troubleshoot, thereby lowering the risk

and duration of unplanned downtime.

Residual Current Monitoring

• Reduces the risk of electric shock by measuring current flowing in

the ground wire. These residual currents will generate a system

alert and keep technicians working on racks safe from harm.

Hybrid Rack Transfer Switch BONUS Introducing Raritan’s

Page 19: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

Raritan’s hybrid rack transfer switches use electromechanical relays and silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) to transfer a load between two sources. The result is performance and reliability that exceeds that of standard automatic transfer switches (ATS) at a lower price point than static transfer switches (STS).

Page 20: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

• Uses SCRs to provide STS-like transfer times and eliminate

electrical arcing and welding of relays; hybrid relay plus SCR-design

allows hand off of the transferred load to a relay, making it power

efficient and producing less heat.

• Fast detection time ensures failed power feeds are detected and

the loads transferred within 4 to 8ms.

• Only rack transfer switch with power metering, energy quality

monitoring and support for optional environmental sensors.

• Local and remote web-based monitoring, and control, and alarms.

Patent-Pending Hybrid Design

Page 21: 5 Reasons You Need the Latest Generation of iPDU

• Oversized relays, rated at 48A, and SCRs, rated at 70A, even

though the transfer switches are intended for 16A and 32A loads.

• Prevents transfers of output short circuits which could lead to

failure of the second power feed.

• Uses two single throw relays instead of one double throw relay (a

single point of failure) to support reliable out-of-phase transfers.

• Uses relays with an air gap of 3.3mm vs. the 0.6mm gap used in

most transfer switch relays on the market. Prevents arcing due to

surges.

• Offers a 30% larger surface area between the relay contacts to

handle larger currents.

• Offers surge protection, field replaceable output short protection,

redundant internal power supplies and redundant controllers.

Designed with Maximum Reliability in Mind

Most common applications are

• Ethernet switch, firewall, or router

• Servers with single power supplies

Expected maximum load

• Typically <8A

• Maximum <16A

4. Red box highlights where the contacts are bouncing.

5. High frequency noise, a tell-tale signature of arcing.

6. Contacts come to rest and the transfer is complete.
