AIR TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT MScOVERVIEWThe Air Transport Management MSc offers a critical, comprehensive and practical understanding of the structure and operation of the international air transport industry. The course is designed to equip you with a range of transferable and analytical skills that can be directly applied in the workplace. This course has been developed by two leading aviation academics - with over 30 years combined experience.

The programme is suited to recent graduates, as well as those with existing professional experience, who wish to develop and extend their critical knowledge and understanding of the commercial air transport industry.

By studying different aspects of air transport management, this course will enable you to gain a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of this ever-evolving industry. You’ll analyse the commercial and regulatory environment in which air transport operates, learn about the key planning issues airports have to consider and evaluate the merits of strategic airline business models.

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENTTeaching is delivered through a mix of formal lectures and informal group discussion. Modules will be assessed through a combination of written coursework, group work and examinations. You will complete an individual research Dissertation or Business Research Project on an agreed air transport topic under the supervision of an academic staff member.

EMPLOYABILITYYou will develop an advanced understanding of air transport issues both nationally and internationally, and enhance your career prospects in a range of potential career within the airline and airport operator sector. Example destinations could include: airlines, air cargo logistics companies, national aviation regulators, consultants, air traffic control, the travel and tourism industry, marketing and further educational studies.

Entry requirements: Applicants will normally hold a minimum of a second class honours degree from a UK university (or international equivalent) in air transport, geography, engineering, economics, tourism, international business, management or a related subject.

Relevant industrial experience will also be considered on an individual basis.

English language requirements: IELTS 6.0, including 5.5 in each component is normally required. English language tuition is available at DMU both before and during the programme if required.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT IN SPORT MSc OVERVIEWThis course explores the evolving and multi-faceted area of management in sport through core modules from business and bespoke sport modules. In addition, the course focuses on ethical considerations, major competitions, sports marketing, heritage and sport’s political, social, economic, and cultural contexts.

During the Business Management in Sport MSc, you will develop knowledge of business management and sport on local, national, international and global levels to prepare for a career in the sector.

Site visits are an essential part of this course. The Sport Heritage and Legacy Management module will allow you to visit iconic sporting venues across England and overseas.

DMU Global trips focused on the sport industry also provide additional learning experiences. Past trips to Toronto, Canada, included visiting the Hockey Hall of Fame, attending a baseball game at the Rogers Centre (the first fully retractable dome at a sport venue) and speaking with the National Hockey League headquarters staff.

Mentoring and support from academics in the forefront of their fields as well as from sport industry professionals is provided.

In addition, there are numerous opportunities to volunteer at professional, local, national, and international sporting events to help build your knowledge and experience.

You may also be considered if they have no formal qualifications but extensive industry experience.

CREATIVE ENTERPRISE MScOVERVIEWCreative workers and leaders require specific skills and approaches to succeed in the creative economy, and to retain competitiveness in a quickly evolving industry. This course is uniquely positioned to help you respond to these evolving challenges.

Supported by industry experts and mentors, you will work through practice-based modules on enterprise and innovation, business in the creative industries, legal issues, and managing new technology. You will also have the opportunity to learn about marketing and branding, international business and creative disciplines. We will support you in developing a real business plan as part of the Entrepreneurship Project module, or help develop a creative product or service as part of the Creative Research Project module.

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENTThis is a full-time course so you should be prepared to devote approximately 38 hours a week to your studies. You will typically have up to 14 hours contact teaching most weeks for semester one and two. In addition each module tutor provides a two-hour surgery each week available for individual consultation.

In order to prepare for, and assimilate, the work in lectures and seminars, you will be expected to make regular use of our online resources, participate in classroom discussions including on our virtual learning environment (VLE) and engage in personal study, revision and reflection for approximately 24 hours per week.

Teaching will be delivered through formal lectures, informal seminars, tutorials, workshops,

discussions and e-learning packages. You may also benefit from guest lectures and opportunities through DMU Local and DMU Global. .

You’ll be assessed through individual and group written assignments, presentations, exams and a dissertation.

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENTThis is a full-time course so you should be prepared to devote approximately 38 hours a week to your studies. You will typically have up to 14 hours contact teaching most weeks for semester one and two. In addition each module provides a two-hour surgery each week available for individual consultation with the lecturer.

In order to prepare for, and assimilate, the work in lectures and seminars you will be expected to make regular use of our online resources, participate in classroom discussions including on our virtual

learning environment (VLE) and engage in personal study, revision and reflection for approximately 24 hours per week.

Teaching will be delivered through formal lectures, informal seminars, tutorials, workshops, discussions and e-learning packages. You may also benefit from guest lectures and opportunities through DMU Local and DMU Global. You’ll be assessed through individual and group written assignments, presentations, visual mood boards, exams and a dissertation.

Entry requirements: Applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject with a minimum pass of 2:2, or equivalent overseas qualification.

Applications from those without formal qualifications but with significant professional experience in business or human resource management will be considered individually.

English language requirements: IELTS 6.0, including 5.5 in each component is normally required.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT MScOVERVIEWThis course is designed to meet the increasing demand for effective project management across all industries. Project management is important in all business fields from the financial sector to healthcare and from public services to information technology with tasks such as new product development, change management, software development and event management benefiting from a structured management approach.

The overall aim of the course is to balance theoretical analysis with practical application to develop a critical and questioning approach to the conceptual underpinnings of project management.

You will explore the key principles behind project management methodology. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake a Business Research Project, a live consultancy project where you provide a solution to a real-world business challenge. The course is equally suitable for applicants wishing to move into a new career in project management and for those professionals already working in the profession who are now looking for formal accreditation of their knowledge and skills.

Assessment is usually a combination of individual and group work, presentations, essays, reports and projects.

Tutors are drawn from the multidisciplinary staff of the business provision. They are involved in a wide range of research and consultancy projects which help to contribute to the richness of your learning experience.

This fast-growing management discipline provides opportunities in the private and public sectors including industries such as cultural events, construction, finance, pharmaceuticals, transport and large-scale government projects.
