What is Conference Judging? Allows 4-H'ers to talk face to face with the judge about his/her exhibit. The 4-H’er will meet with a judge

individually and tell them what they planned to learn and planned to do for their project (GOAL), what they have done (Plan of Action), and

what they learned from their project.

Changes for 2020: Due to COVID-19 with guidance from Iowa State University, Iowa 4-H, and Iowa Public Health, we have made modifica-

tions to this year’s Conference Judging. These modifications are to ensure the safety of our youth, judges, volunteers, and staff. Conference

Judging will be held in two locations for 2020, the Community Center and the Pavilion. Judges will be spread out to practice social distancing.

It is recommended volunteers, exhibitors, and families use face coverings. There will be NO public exhibit hall for 2020. All projects will be

taken home at the completion of Conference Judging. Exhibitors may bring one parent/guardian to Conference Judging. The public will not be

allowed in the Community Center or Pavilion during judging.

Before You Come: Please bring TWO copies of your exhibit goal write up. One copy will be given to the judge to look over while judging

your project. This will not be returned to the exhibitor. Exhibit tags will be mailed to exhibitors after the July 1st entry deadline. Exhibit tags

must be attached to projects BEFORE Conference Judging.

CONFERENCE JUDGING FORMS:

Check-In: Upon entering the building, exhibitors will be asked to wash or sanitize their hands. Markers will be placed 6 feet apart on the floor

to direct participants where to stand while waiting to be judged. Chairs will be spaced out to wait for an open judge. It is recommended volun-

teers, exhibitors, and families use face coverings. Please plan to arrive at your Conference Judging time slot on time and ready. If you are

early, please wait in your vehicle until it is your club's scheduled time. We will be taking extra time between each exhibitor and each club to

sanitize judging stations and preparing for the next club. In an effort to limit the number of people in the building we ask that only exhibitors

and one parent or guardian attend Conference Judging. After checking in, the room monitor will direct you to the correct judging station to

wait for your turn to be judged.

Check-Out & Results: Only verbal comments will be shared with exhibitors. No comment cards will be given to exhibitors after judging. Rib-

bon placing should be circled by the exhibitor on the entry tag. After all of your projects have been judged, report to the check out table where

you will receive all of your ribbons. After you are finished being judged and have checked out, gather all your belongings and leave immedi-

ately. There will be no public exhibit hall and no projects on display for the 2020 Delaware County Fair. The results of Conference Judging

will be posted online 2-3 days following the completion of judging. State Fair projects will be selected. It is TBD on how they will be evaluated

at the State level.

Helpful Hints & Reminders

• Wear your 4-H uniform.

• RELAX. SMILE. Just explain your exhibit—what did you want to do or learn? What did you

do? What did you learn?

• Be patient. Over 400 other members’ exhibits will be judged throughout the day.

• If you leave your place in line to go to another judge, have someone hold your space.
