Now in its seventh year, this two-hour mini-camp for the

very young provides a music and art experience for children with caregivers. In a 30-minute music session, children and adults will sing, move, dance, play instru-ments, and chant finger plays and rhymes centered around the week-ly theme. The remainder of the morning includes an opening ses-sion, musical play, free-play (out-

Maximum EnrollmentEach week is limited to 16 children accompanied by an adult caregiver. All registered campers will receive a Westminster Conservatory T-shirt (see registration form).

ScheduleEach session runs for one week and offers a different theme. Families may choose to sign up for any number of weeks (see fee schedule on next page).

All Beach Beats classrooms are air-conditioned with adjoining privacy bathrooms and diaper-change

Celebrating its 22nd year, Musical Jamboree invites young children

to explore musical concepts through experiences close to home and far away. The program is designed for children’s active participation in a relaxed, child-centered, develop-mentally-appropriate musical experi-ence. Grouped by age and grade level, campers spend their mornings

rotating among three classrooms which provide opportunities for singing, play-ing Orff instruments (barred and percussion), creating ensembles, listening to live and recorded music, playing musical games, interpreting music through creative movement, dramatizing stories, and making crafts linked to the daily theme. Each classroom is supervised by an Early Childhood Music Educator with an adult assistant (over 18 years). A mid-morning break provides outside play-time, weather permitting. Families will receive daily electronic activity pages containing information on the day’s events and ideas for continuing the themes at home. Each Friday, there is a Family Time at the end of the morning during which the children share their favorite activities from the week.

Come join us for an exciting week of

chamber music and fun. Pianists, wind,

and string players at the pre-college level will

of piano and instrumental groupings. Students

will have a chance to meet other musicians of similar abilities and interests and be

coached by experienced Conservatory faculty.

Along with daily coaching sessions, this program will include master classes;

supervised rehearsals; and classes covering chamber music literature, rehearsal tech-

niques, and musicianship skills directly related to assigned ensemble pieces. Listening

Jazz Combo Boot Camp is a great opportu-

nity for students of all instruments to take

their existing knowledge of jazz to the next

level by learning to play at a higher level with

their peers under the guidance of working jazz

professionals. Students will learn how to play in

a small jazz combo setting—something not

available in most middle/high schools, which

usually only offer big band formats.

Melodic, harmonic and rhythmic instrumentalists will learn their roles in a

small jazz group and how to “run” the ensemble, all while playing with professional

musicians who will drive them past the level at which they normally play in a fun and

challenging way. In addition to group lessons based on instrument, students will

enjoy specialty classes such as combo class, jazz theory and improv, and a short listen-

ing class that will tie directly into what they are learning at camp.

Students can better get to know one another during a mid-morning break, dur-

ing which they can relax and eat a quick snack that they have brought. Jazz Combo

Boot Camp will conclude with a final performance on Friday, when the students can

show off all they have learned during the week.
