Capoeira: Afro-Brazilian Martial Art Involves discipline and rhythm and provides agility, control and coordination.
You will be introduced to the Brazilian culture through this amazing martial art - a mixture of exercise, acrobatics, music and instruments. It has its own philosophy based on respect. There are no winners, no losers - all ages, men and women can play and learn together as equals. We believe that co-operation and support are the key elements of Capoeira, which makes it so popular amongst children/ adults and so successful at engaging them on a psychological level.

Hello, I am Diana Pedley a registered osteopath and have relocated to Woking recently. I am very excited to be setting up my own Osteopathy practice in Woking town centre.
My skill set is as varied as the patients that I see. On the one hand, I treat babies and expectant mums with a sensitive and delicate touch using gentle cranial techniques. On the other hand, I treat adults of all ages using a combination of articulation and massage.
I have had great success treating many patients in a number of clinics across London and the south-east and am proud to be launching my business in Woking.

passions of photography and all things baby whilst still being able to look after my own boy’s full time.
At Early Moments my aim is simple... To capture the beautiful unspoken moments and bond between your family and your child (baby to be!). I have a ‘home from home’ studio based in Woking, Surrey. My home is set up for babies and toddlers siblings – everything they could need from swings and slides in the garden to DVD’s and toys are on hand.

A mother of two autistic boys from Farnham, Surrey has published a new ebook aimed at helping other parents navigate their way through the special educational needs jungle.
While there are other books about the SEN system available, this book, by the creator of the website www.specialneedsjungle.co.uk, Tania Tirraoro, takes a parent-to-parent approach, explaining in detail how to prepare an application for a statutory assessment of special educational needs.
Tania said, “I’ve helped many parents with their applications and I realised that what they need is not an overview of the whole system, but a basic ‘how-to’, written in an accessible way. That is what I hope I’ve achieved.”
“I’ve been through the process twice and my boys, who both have Asperger Syndrome, now have access to the kind of education they need to help level the playing field in their future lives. Because I had the ability to present their cases methodically, they got the help they needed. Why should other children not have the same as my boys?”
The book is available in all ebook formats from Amazon Kindle and Smashwords.com. If parents do not have a Kindle, then Kindle for PC, ipad or smartphone can be downloaded for free from Amazon.co.uk. It makes this book accessible to every parent, instantly.
Tania has kindly donated one hard copy of this book, to be given to any reader of The Family Grapevine, who has specific need for this information. Please email [email protected] or call Debbie o 01932 854690.

Safe Treatments for Baby & Mum-2-BeNicholas J Oram qualified in 1994 with a BSc in Chiropractic and is the owner of Sunbury Chiropractic Centre. He also works alongside Drs Christine Gardiner and Mumuksh Patel at the Glebe Street G.P. Surgery in Chiswick.
Chiropractic and cranial treatment is a very gentle and safe treatment which can be given to pregnant Mums up to the day of delivery for conditions e.g. back ache. Treatment for a newborn from as young as a day old involves gentle massage and muscular releases together with cranial work so gentle that when babies arrive asleep, they often don’t wake up during the treatment.
Nick has a great deal of personal experience having treated all of his three young children, the first of whom was a forceps delivery and needed regular care through infancy and the younger two for general health and well being.

Do you know about group B Strep (GBS)?GBS is the most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies, causing septicaemia, pneumonia and meningitis – yet most of us haven’t heard of it.
Most GBS infection occurs in the first couple of days after birth and after 3 months, they’re very rare indeed.
It’s good to know about GBS when you’re pregnant because most of these infections can be prevented. If Mum is tested at 35-37 weeks of pregnancy to see if she’s carrying GBS – and around 25% of us do - then antibiotics can be given once labour starts to those who are carrying GBS, as well as to those with other known ‘risk factors’ (preterm delivery, previous baby infected with GBS, mum having a fever in labour and >18 hours between waters breaking and delivery).
Unlike many other western countries which have seen the numbers of newborn babies with GBS infection fall, sensitive testing for GBS isn’t routinely available on the NHS (though they are available privately for around £35) and our numbers are rising. Charity, Group B Strep Support is seeking better prevention in the UK of these horrible infections – please consider signing and sharing their petition http://www.gbss.org.uk/epetition.

online Nanny Lottery Puts Children at RiskMatching parents with nannies at the click of a button is compromising children’s safety, according to the Association of Nanny Agencies (ANA).
Over the last year there has been a sharp rise in the number of online nanny directories springing up on the internet, offering parents and nannies free and easy access to childcare databases.
Belinda Hay, Chairman of ANA, said: “It may seem like a cheap and convenient way for busy parents to find childcare but often matches are made according to proximity of postcode between the parent and childcare provider. There are no face-to-face meetings and often very few checks are done to verify the childcare providers’ experience, qualifications, references or suitability for the families in question.
“Choosing a nanny for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. It can’t be done safely at the click of a button.
“At ANA we are committed to driving up safeguarding standards by establishing a professional code of conduct for all nanny agencies. We also work with leading child protection bodies to make sure our procedures continue to set the standard for the industry.
“If parents are looking for a nanny or nanny agency, they can rest assured that an ANA-approved agency meets the highest standards of professional childcare excellence. ANA membership is proof that the agency is reputable and committed to delivering quality childcare services. This includes a commitment to thoroughly vetting every nanny on its books through face-to-face meetings and rigorous reference and paperwork checks including CRB checks. ANA members also comply with legal, insurance and data protection responsibilities.”
The growing ANA network enables members to freely share good practice and remain up-to-date on regulations and legislation through regular meetings and correspondence. ANA is also now planning to improve its new members’ services by providing more accessible support and information and by introducing more member benefits including discounted insurance and legal services.

The International School of London (ISL) Surrey campus currently accepts students from age 2 through 12 (rising 13), nursery through grade 7, but the school is adding a grade each year, working towards the academically rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma for students aged 16 and 17. The school’s current Middle Years Programme offers 11 and 12 year olds an exciting international curriculum which combines the developmental needs of adolescents with the requirements of the future. Bursaries are available for qualified local students.
ISL Surrey values the difference that small class sizes and individual
attention can make for students. The school offers a very family-oriented and individualised programme which also specialises in modern language learning from an early age. Starting at age 3, students have five class periods per week of an additional language. For bilingual or non-native English speakers, students gain a firm language and literacy foundation in their own language which supports subsequent language learning. For English speakers, research demonstrates the value of language learning in overall academic success. Looking towards the world’s increasingly global future, multiple language facility will become ever more valuable.

Hoe Bridge School is an academic, co-educational Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory school for children aged between 2½ and 13. It is set in twenty beautiful acres on the outskirts of Woking, only 2 miles from the town centre. Facilities are both modern and outstanding and a major recent development has added three Science Laboratories and both new classrooms and changing rooms. At the heart of Hoe Bridge stands the 17th century mansion, Hoe Place. Hoe Place is steeped in history and was once the favourite retreat for Lady Castlemaine, one of the mistresses of King Charles II.
The School has an outstanding Pre-Prep Department dedicated to children between the ages of 2½ and 7. The large, purpose-built building has been specially designed to suit the age group 4 to 7 with a separate Nursery building for 2½ to 4 year olds.
A broad curriculum is followed with children gaining scholarships to all local and national senior schools. Sport is a very important aspect in the school and all children play every day, with many successes enjoyed both locally and nationally. A very happy and caring atmosphere exists within the school and this allows the pupils to develop into confident and successful children.
St George’s College Junior School is a leading independent co-educational Roman Catholic day School in Surrey for 3–11 year olds. Founded by the Josephite Order in 1950, it is proud of its well-earned reputation for being a friendly school where all pupils are individually known and valued. We aspire to help all pupils develop into confident and well-motivated individuals with high personal self-esteem.
The carefully structured and broad-based curriculum is delivered in a way appropriate to the age and individual needs of the pupils. Small class sizes, combined with a dedicated and committed teaching staff, enable each pupil to achieve their own level of academic excellence.
We aspire to educate the whole child, discovering and developing their talent and celebrating it in the School community. We strive for our pupils to benefit from the challenge of a wide and evolving curriculum within a nurturing and safe environment.
As pupils progress through the Junior School, they are encouraged to become increasingly self-reliant and to develop a real enthusiasm for the challenge of learning. The Junior School consistently achieves outstanding academic, music and drama results and the vast majority of pupils make the natural move to St George’s College, our Senior School.

Staines Prep Provides a Happy Foundation For Life
The area’s longest established co-educational school, Staines Prep offers an excellent all round education for boys and girls from the age 2½ – 11. It isn’t just about passing exams, though pupils do well at that too. It’s also about developing a positive, confident attitude to life, good citizenship, physical well-being and a hunger for knowledge.
Personal development is key: every child is treated as an individual and given the chance to explore, to ask questions and seek answers.
This happens with the help of great teachers, superb classroom, IT and laboratory facilities and excellent play facilities. Staines Prep creates enthusiasm and encourages a positive attitude and interest that extends through art and music to the environment and the world outside.
As headmaster Peter Roberts said recently, “It remains vitally important to focus on the whole child and provide wide-ranging opportunities that help develop their confidence and general well-being. At Staines Prep we provide all of this in a nurturing environment that enables the pupils to flourish.”
Further information can be found at www.stainesprep.co.uk, by contacting the Registrar on 01784 450909 or by email via [email protected] assistance with fee planning and other fee information please contact the Bursar. Means-tested bursaries available subject to assessment.
Ripley Court School
Now fast approaching the ripe old age of 120, Ripley Court has for years been preparing children for entry to top Independent schools. Its secret for success is to combine this strong academic rigor with inculcating the more-important but less-measurable values in life, such as kindness, respect, gentleness, and fun.
Conscientiously setting itself apart from the cramming type of school common to this area, Ripley Court children of all generations report back on a wonderful childhood spent having fun, being outdoors and having time to be children, but at the same time achieving highly in life.
Education is like applying a
coat of fine paint to a garden shed – the shed may start out strong but will soon weather without the paint. The paint may be of the finest quality, but if it is hastily applied, inaccurately applied, or applied with too much emphasis on some areas and not enough in others, the shed will suffer in the long term and ultimately may not last the course. It is best to take time, to allow growth and to be very thorough. The shed will be strengthened, be more resilient and be more useful in the end.
Do come and visit, and see for yourself.

Having a party but don’t want to spend hours preparing the food…then give me a call.
Creative, interesting, fun and yummy ideas for children’s parties. I can work with whatever theme you have chosen and supply the cake to complete the occasion. Children love to graze and eat with their fingers so special mini sized treats designed just for them add to the fun. All my food is homemade and I use only the best natural ingredients. If you are taking the children out for a treat how about a scrumptious party foodie box for each child, or a hamper for a picnic.
Weddings to picnics, Birthdays or Anniversary’s a great way to socialise. Whatever the occasion or budget whether canapés or bangers & mash we can help you have a great celebration.
