Dear Parents/Guardians,

Arrival and Departure

LOC’s licensed and experienced medical staff is available for camper care 24-hours each day. Our nurses dispense medications and care for ill children, while our athletic trainers are respon-sible for the prevention and care of injuries.

Parents may address any concerns with our medical staff during check-in or by contacting our office prior to the start of your camper’s session. All medications, including vitamins and natural remedies, must be sent to camp in the original packaging and must be labeled with the camper’s name, type of medication, dosage and frequency. Parents are encouraged to include a note with any additional information they feel would be helpful to our medical staff. For the safety of our campers, all medications will be kept and administered by our Medical staff.

Our Health Hut is fully-stocked with over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol and Advil, and are used on an as-needed-basis to manage illness and injury.

All campers must be covered by medical insurance, and we must have a copy of the LOC camper paperwork on file BEFORE your child can participate in any activities.

All meals are included in the camp fees. Campers may eat as much as they like, choosing from many different options. Our Cafeteria serves hot entrees, soup and salad bars, sandwiches, fruit, and desserts. Our Burger Shack serves hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken breast sandwiches; while our Fajita Grill serves breakfast sandwiches, chicken fajitas and nachos.

Campers receive an individual camp bank account, which they can deposit spending money into, so that they do not have to carry cash during their session. Your camper will be given a special ID number during check-in which they will give to our cashiers to help identify themselves. The total of each purchase is then deducted from their account.

We are often asked what an appropriate amount for the bank account is, but this really is a personal decision based on what you would like your camper to purchase. We sell a variety of different things including sweatshirts ($35 - $50), t-shirts ($15-$20), skate decks and trucks ($45 - $55), workout tanks, shorts and leos ($20 - $40). We also have snack items which are comparable to convenience store prices. While our staff tries to assist campers in making good choices, your camper does have control over his/her own account. This is a great opportunity for you and

There are many ways to keep in touch with your child while he or she is with us at camp. We ask that you keep your contact upbeat and positive by focusing on instructional sessions and recreational activities, and by avoiding statements such as “We miss you so much!” If your camper contacts you with a concern, please call our office directly so that the issue can be addressed immediately.

Mail: Campers love to receive letters and parcels! When sending mail to camp, please address it as follows: Attn: Camper’s Full Name, Lake Owen Camp, 46445 Krafts Point Road, Cable, WI 54821.

E- mail: LOC has established a special e-mail system to provide parents with an opportunity to send one-way e-mails to their camper. This is a free service. Note that e-mails will be delivered to your child once every 24 hours, and your camper will not be able to respond to you via e-mail. Please see the website for more information.

Telephone: A limited number of phones are available for your camper to use with a calling card. Encourage your child to call during the afternoon and to wait until Wednesday, as we have found this helps to prevent homesickness.

Cell Phones: We discourage campers from bringing cell phones to camp for several reasons. The first being that some carriers do not get coverage in this area, and the second being that cell phones can easily get misplaced or broken in a camp environment. The third reason is that we feel it distracts from the overall camp experience. Being a camper teaches a child to be independent and provides them with the opportunities to make new friends and experience new things; cell phones can interrupt this process.

However, if you decide to send your child with a cell phone, the phone must be marked with your child’s full name. Campers are not permitted to use their phones after lights-out. Junior campers must turn their cell phones into their counselors for safe-keeping and to monitor homesickness. LOC reserves the right to confiscate cell phones if deemed necessary.
