We embrace the opportunity of global corporate citizenship by aligning our actions with the economic,
social and environmental expectations of the world marketplace. The value we place on this commitment
is demonstrated through our three pillars of corporate social responsibility, which include:
• Financial Empowerment: We work strategically with select non-profit organizations to promote
financial literacy; we support micro-lending to promote global commerce; and we promote the
adoption of new payment technologies for the non-profit sector.
• Community Involvement: We encourage and support our employees to play an active role in their
communities by matching their gifts in order to multiply the impact of their personal donations and
providing a variety of benefits to support community involvement, including paid time off to volunteer.
• Global Citizenship: We act with the highest level of acountability to our customers, employees
and the environment by promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, reducing our
environmental impact where we operate and protecting the data of consumers and clients.
In our 2012 Corporate Citizenship Report, you’ll find many examples of how we are actively supporting
our commitment.
We will continue to challenge ourselves to find new ways we can support our customers, communities
and employees, because we know that in doing so, we build a stronger business and promote a

2012 CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP REPORT
First Data believes that empowering people to develop strong financial skills helps foster a
robust economy. Financial literacy is an important educational building block for young people
to ensure they successfully navigate the increasingly complex world of global commerce.
FINANCIAL LITERACY
Teaching Economics in the Classroom in the U.S.
First Data works with Junior Achievement (JA) to help prepare young people for financial success
through understanding the basics of economics and workforce readiness. Worldwide, JA reaches
9.3 million kindergarten through 12th-grade students in 123 countries annually.
In 2012, JA utilized First Data employee volunteers in the classroom to provide in-school and
after-school programs for students focusing on entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial
literacy. Equipped with a unique educational model and curriculum, more than 150 employee
volunteers in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska and Texas donated their time to teach in the
classroom, serve on local JA boards and fundraise to help JA fulfill its mission.
Developing Financial Capabilities for Youth in England
In the UK, First Data began cooperating with the Enterprise in Education Partnership, an
organization in England that works with local schools and businesses to design and deliver a
variety of financial educational programmes for young people.
First Data sponsored two programmes: the Financial Capability Programme and the Pathway
to Employment Programme. In July, under the Financial Capability Programme, our First Data
colleagues helped to develop and deliver a two-day workshop at a local high school. The aim
of the workshop was to help students develop a deeper understanding of personal finance,
budgeting and debt.

MICRO-FINANCEIf the resources to create and sustain a business venture are within reach, then entrepreneurs
can flourish as individuals and achieve economic freedom and independence. First Data
supports organizations that provide small loans to help promote commerce and empower
people to develop strong financial skills that foster a robust global economy.
Building Business Skills in India
Accion is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to building a financially inclusive world, with
access to economic opportunity for all, by giving people the financial tools they need to improve
their lives. A world pioneer in microfinance, Accion has helped build 63 microfinance institutions in
31 countries on four continents. Those institutions currently reach millions of clients.
First Data supports Accion in India to help provide individuals with training and techniques to
strengthen and grow their new ventures. With First Data’s financial support, Accion’s “Dialogue
on Business” curriculum now contains new material on sales strategies, marketing and pricing, and
rights and responsibilities of a borrower. The greater the skill level of today’s micro loan recipient,
the more likely the business will succeed, resulting in expanded global commerce and more
financially independent individuals.
Providing Life-Changing Microloans
In alignment with First Data’s commitment to promoting and strengthening small business, 62
employees from 11 countries made loans to entrepreneurs in developing markets through Kiva, a
web-based nonprofit organization that connects millions of people worldwide through lending to
alleviate poverty.
Marek Herman, a First Data employee from Warsaw, Poland, lent to seven entrepreneurs in Samoa,
Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Peru, Paraguay, Colombia and Mongolia. Their
businesses ranged from food sales to creative art to local services.
“I appreciate that First Data gives me the opportunity to invest in an entrepreneur. It is truly
satisfying and strengthens our sense of common development of the global economy. Supporting
people with initiative and willingness to act is the basis for the economic development of each
country,” said Marek.

PAYMENT TECHNOLOGY
Strengthening Non-Profit Fundraising
Every dollar counts to a non-profit organization that relies on individual donations to carry out its
critical community work. By using First Data’s wireless payment technology, donations are received
safely and efficiently, and funds are available the very next day.
When Junior Achievement in Denver, Colorado first used First Data’s FD400 wireless payment
terminal to collect donations from participants during weekly Bowl-a-thons, the amount raised
year-over-year increased 42%. Better still, all proceeds from Bowl-a-thons support the year-round
financial literacy programs that First Data strongly promotes.
For the Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute (RMMFI), a similar fundraising result took place at its
annual “Sunday Fun Day” event. RMMFI provides intensive training and micro-loans to low-income
entrepreneurs in Denver aiming to launch a business, which First Data applauds for promoting
economic opportunity. Overall, donations to RMMFI were up 40% at its event, and the wireless
credit card terminals provided a significant contribution to that increase with over one-third of the
proceeds being run through the terminals.
“The First Data wireless payment terminals offer donors an alternative way to give – other than cash
or checks – that is secure and efficient,” said RMMFI co-founder, Stacey Sagesse. “Plus, it’s cool
technology that demonstrates to our new entrepreneurs how future sales transactions can take
place in their for-profit businesses,” she adds.

As a global company, First Data recognizes the importance of operating at the highest level of
accountability for our clients, our employees and to the environment. In 2012, First Data made
important strides toward protecting our world’s children and climate.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Combating Online Child Pornography
With the growth of online access worldwide, child exploitation has
become a multi-billion dollar industry. The ability to use a variety of
payment methods to purchase child pornography has made it easier
than ever to access images of children being sexually abused. As one
of the world’s largest payments processors, First Data is committed to
preventing this illegal activity.
In April 2012, First Data and the National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children (NCMEC) and its sister organization, the International Centre
for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), launched a first-ever
payments industry education initiative in the United States.
The content of the training is tailored for merchant acquirers,
compliance officers and Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs)
to shed light on the latest tactics used by purveyors of online child
exploitation, and to provide tools to prevent the unknown and
unwanted use of the payments system to facilitate the illegal practice.
“As payment models change based on the pressure put on traditional methods of payments and we see the emergence of new technologies such as mobile payments, this training initiative will be able to stay current with and advise on those changes.”

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Implementing Energy Efficiency in U.S. Data Centers
In September 2007, First Data became a portfolio company of KKR invest funds. The following May
2008, KKR announced a ground-breaking partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)
– a leading national non-profit organization with more than 700,000 members.
Through this first-of-its-kind partnership, known as the Green Portfolio Program, First Data pledged
to measure and improve the environmental performance within its United States-based data
centers. In 2010, First Data began actively measuring and managing energy consumption in these
centers and established a 2009 performance baseline.
In absolute terms, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from data centers in the U.S. have decreased
approximately 10% compared to a 2009 baseline. Efficiency, measured by the amount of
greenhouse gas emissions in relation to the number of payment transactions processed by First
Data in the U.S., improved approximately 26%. The improvements in efficiency have helped First
Data to avoid approximately $3.8 million in costs and an estimated 44,400 metric tons of GHG
emissions since 2009.
Using Hydro-electric Power in Germany
With nearly 1,200 employees in Bad Vilbel and Nuremberg, First Data has a significant footprint
in Germany. To cover current energy demand for the two locations in an environmentally
responsible manner, First Data is drawing exclusively on renewable energy produced from
water power to provide all the electricity to its buildings. Through this renewable power supply,
First Data saves the planet from more than 4,512 tons of carbon dioxide emissions at its Bad
Vilbel location alone to improve and enhance environmental sustainability for the site.
First Data’s power delivery is validated by the European Energy Certificate System (EECS), a
European regulatory framework for creating, measuring and transferring electronic documents
proposed by the European Union’s (EU) Renewable Energy Directive. With climate protection
in mind, the goal of the directive is for EU member states to reach at least 20% of total energy
consumption from renewables.

EMPLOYEE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY
Developing a Diverse and Inclusive Workplace
In recognition of First Data’s commitment to providing a global workplace that reflects the
diversity of the many nations in which we operate, we launched the First Data Diversity and
Inclusivity Council (D&I Council) in 2012.
Comprised of representatives from each of our four regions, the D&I Council dedicates its
efforts throughout the year to creating First Data’s position on Diversity & Inclusion and
establishing a roadmap of recommended actions for the short and long term. In 2013, the
D&I Council anticipates taking major steps forward in the areas of communication, community
involvement, talent acquisition and employee education and retention.
Celebrating our Service Members and Veterans
First Data’s Corporate Veterans Program focuses on hiring, retaining and supporting service members. Our military pay policy exceeds the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) requirements, in part by continuing the employee’s and enrolled family members’ medical and life insurance benefits during deployments.
In August 2012, First Data announced that it has joined the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of major corporations that have jointly committed to hiring 100,000 transitioning service members and military veterans by 2020.
Throughout the years, First Data has been honored with numerous awards and recognition, including the 2009 Freedom Award, which is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for the outstanding support shown to their employees who serve in
the National Guard and Reserve.
