ST. MATTHIAS CHURCH
Archdiocese of Philadelphia
A FUTURE FULL OF HOPE
All the Parishes of the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia are participating in CALLED BY
NAME, a program of vocation awareness that
begins this weekend. This program offers an
opportunity for us to pray for priestly vocations;
to recognize gifts and potential for leadership
and service in members of our parish; and finally,
to call forth and encourage these members to
share their gifts in priesthood. Perhaps you know
a man (16 years of age or older) who would, in
your opinion, have the qualities to become a
priest. Please recommend this person by filling
out the response card found in the back of the
church. Next weekend, place the completed card
in the collection basket.

SAINT MATTHIAS ANNUAL GIVING
TREE
Benefitting La Salle Academy
On November 25th, our 7th Annual Giving Tree
will be placed in front of the Saint Joseph Altar, at
the entrance to the crypt. The tree will again display
Christmas ornaments, but these are special
ornaments. On the back of each ornament are items
requested from Santa. In this case, you will be the
Santa!
LaSalle Academy is a mission school located in
Philadelphia. The school is dedicated to educating
children in grades 3 through 8 whose life
opportunities are limited by financial, academic,
social, or emotional challenges, and whose
parents/guardians desire, but cannot afford a
Catholic education. The academy is located at 1434
N. Second Street. LaSalle Academy serves the
poorest of the poor.
We ask each family to take an ornament from the
tree, purchase the gift requested, place the
unwrapped gift with the firmly-affixed ornament
onto the gift under the tree. The gifts will be
delivered to the school for distribution to these
children and families. We ask that you place your
gift under the tree by Sunday, December 16th.
LaSalle stated that these gifts are many times the
only present the child or family members will receive
for Christmas. It is our prayer that all the ornaments
are taken and replaced with a gift under the tree. May
God bless you for your generosity.

Project Committee are making plans for an All Parish
Kick Off in January, 2019.
In advance of this Kickoff there will be a Pacesetter Pastor
Reception Monday, November 12, 2018 from 7-8:30 PM
in the Convent Building. These events are for parishioners
who may be in a position to help ignite the campaign by
making an early and lead donor commitment at a pace-
setting level. We hope as many parish members as
possible will consider this opportunity to help launch the
campaign and inspire all of us to greater heights. Tours of
the Convent will take place during this event.
No one will be asked to make their pledge at the reception
but everyone will receive a pledge form and will be asked
to return it as soon as possible. Volunteers are also ready
to schedule appointments to meet with parishioners in
their home.
Anyone wishing to attend should call Peggy Haley at the
Parish Office: 610-664-0207.

The demand is high and we are in need of additional help. As a once a month effort, we hope that more people will take up the call to help those in need by providing a nice casserole for men who are homeless in Center City Philadelphia. Will you lend a hand and help feed the hungry? Thank you!!
