Encourage a bit of bragging, and end with a “thank you.” Get Personal Get to know at least one thing about each of your colleagues/employees on a personal level, such as hobbies, volunteer activities, pets, children leisure, pursuits, etc. This gives you a wonderful way to open a casual conversation. Even the “small stuff” counts It’s just as important to recognize a new employee for quickly learning a new task as it is to recognize a long-term employee for being a great leader. Remember Anniversaries Take the time to personally acknowledge yearly employment anniversaries. Make sure employees know you value their loyalty. Give Compliments! Make someone great today! Each time you compliment an employee/colleague, you are encouraging them to continue their good work and to find even better ways to get the job done.
