10 Signs That You Are NOT Ready To Self-Publish ARE YOU REALLY READY? Not just your manuscript, but YOU. Self-publishing has many advantages, but it can be a lot of work and take a lot of your time. And because of this, you need to comtemplate the real reasons that you want to get into self-publishing. Here is my list of things that I had to learn about, think about, and deal with as I developed and grew my self-publishing business. I share them here with you to help make your journey a little bit easier, more enjoyable, and more profitable. 1. You Believe That “If I Write It They Will Come” Get serious. Success takes hard work and long hours. Building an audience takes a long time. You must develop expertise in marketing, sales, blogging, etc. 2. You Haven't Researched Your Market You MUST understand your audience. Who are they? What are their problems that you can help them solve? What answers are they looking for? Where are they? What are the hottest topics within your niche? 3. You Don’t Understand What Actually Goes Into A Salable Book Your book must look professional and it must be complete in every way. You will lose all respect and credibility from your peers and audience if it is not. 4. You Haven't Researched Your Niche Read everything you can about your niche. Know who the experts are and understand what a “niche” and “micro-niche” are all about. Try to find a less-crowded niche. 5. You Hope To Get Famous From Self-Publishing Possible, but not likely. This cannot be your only motive to self-publish. Earning the respect of your peers and your audience is a very achievable and respectable goal. 6. You Believe That Book Sales And Financial Profits Are What Self-Publishing Is All About Most make very little money from their book sales. Devotion to marketing and your audience will build book sales. Your book will bring in new customers and clients to your main business. It will increase your followers, and build your credibility with your audience and your peers. 7. You Haven't Started Marketing Your Book Book marketing starts far in advance of the publication date. Start with a blog and other social media. Build a devoted audience and make connections within your industry. 8. You Have No Marketing Plan Publishing is 90% marketing, 10% writing. So you must love your subject matter and enjoy sharing your knowledge about it. You must understand your audience’s needs and wants. And want them to succeed too. 9. You're Impatient Publishing takes time and a lot of effort on your part. It takes time to learn all about writing, marketing, design, and social media. Profits don’t come quickly. So make yourself learn to enjoy the process and the journey. 10. You Jump In Before Understanding The Business Side Of Self-Publishing This is a business first and foremost, even if you look at it like a hobby. There is no guarantee of financial success. Marketing yourself and your books is a life-long mission. ARE YOU REALLY READY? Not just your manuscript, but YOU. Self-publishing has many advantages, but it can be a lot of work and take a lot of your time. And because of this, you need to comtemplate the real reasons that you want to get into self-publishing.
