Materials for a Scrappy SamplerMake each block in the Baker’s Dozen: A Cookie Sampler with 3 Color Sets of light, medium, and dark prints for a truly scrappy quilt. To make this block, choose scraps of the minimum size listed below for each fabric.

Grandma’s No Bake Cookies Fabric Key

MAKE THE BLOCK:

Half-Square Triangles (HST)

1. Draw diagonal lines across the back of the (D) squares. Place one (D) atop a (C) square with right sides facing and matching edges. Sew a scant ¼” on both sides of the drawn line. Cut along drawn line and press toward (C).

2. Follow Step 1 using the remaining (D) squares atop the (E) squares.

Assemble the Nine-patch Unit3. Layout each row being sure to orient the HSTs as

shown in Figure 3.

Row 1 Sew a (C/D) HST to the left side of an (E/D) HST and an (F) square to the right. Press as shown.

Row 2 Sew a (D/E) HST to the left side of a (G) square and an (E/D) HST to the right. Press as shown.

Row 3 Sew an (F) square to the left side of a (D/E) HST and a (D/C) HST to the right. Press as shown.

4. Sew Row 1 atop Row 2. Sew Row 3 to the bottom of Row 2. Press as shown. Figure 4.

Complete the Block5. Sew a (B) rectangle to both sides of the Nine-

patch unit and press toward (B). Sew an (A) rectangle to the top and bottom. Press toward (A). Figure 5.

Make the BlockHalf-Square Triangles (HST)

Grandma’s No Bake Cookies

1⁄2 cup cocoa2 cups sugar1⁄2 cup butter (1 stick)1⁄2 cup of peanut butter1– 2 cups quick oats1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Combine cocoa, sugar, and butter. Boil for 2 minutes then add peanut butter, oats, and vanilla. Spoon onto wax paper and let the cookies cool and set. Peel off and eat. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Good!

unit and press toward (B). Sew an (A) rectangle to the top and bottom. Press toward (A). Figure 5.
