Welcome
Dear Friends,
In the year in which a saint’s feast day falls on a Sunday it is usually not observed. For example, last Sunday we celebrated the 5th Sunday of Easter on May 10. If it were not a Sunday, the Church would have celebrated the Feast Day of St. Damien of Molokai. Born in Belgium, he was a Missionary of the Sacred Heart who went to Hawaii in the 19th Century and eventually established a leper colony. He cared for the material and spiritual needs of his community until he con-tracted and died from the same illness. You can learn more about him at www.catholic.org/saints and other sources.
I found myself thinking about his self-less and courageous
service to others while reflecting on the men and women
who are staffing our hospitals and health care facilities. Let’s
keep them and their health in our prayers. For the last few
days I have been praying that through the intercession of St.
Damien, whose heroic example they emulate, they will be
protected from all harm.

May Crowning
May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held
during the month of May. It is a solemn and beautiful
procession, at the end of which a statue of the Blessed
Virgin is crowned with a garland or crown of
flowers honoring Mary as “the Queen of May.”
We would love to see pictures of you and your family
celebrating including your statues and pictures of Our
Lady. Please share them so we can post them on our
website and social media sites. You can send pictures to
