Avery Dennison has added 19 newcolors and textures to its SupremeWrapping Film portfolio for vehiclewrapping. Now available in 69 dif-ferent colors, Avery Dennison Su-preme Wrapping Film delivers ma-jor benefits during both applicationand removal. Installers can applywraps almost 20 percent faster thanthe average competitive products, asSupreme Wrapping Films are moreslideable. Removal of the wrap isresidue-free -- which can improveremoval time by up to 90 percent.

Avery Dennison Supreme WrappingFilm meets the needs of both individu-als and fleets. According to JoannaWolska-Kinneging, Avery Dennison’ssenior product management leader, sign and digital, The full potentialof vehicle wrapping has often not beenrealised in the past because it is per-ceived to be time-consuming andcostly. With this high-performancematerial wrapping companies benefitfrom substantial productivity gains inboth application and removal of thematerial. And it allows the creation ofa highly customised look, with a show-room quality paint-like finish and theoption to use textures.

Supreme Wrapping Film providesa clear protective layer that gives apaint-like finish that lasts up to a maxi-mum of 12 years. The film’s excellentconformability is suitable for all typesof vehicles as it easily accommodatesdifficult curves and recesses.

Avery Dennison’s unique Easy

Apply RS adhesive has long-term re-movability properties, so film re-moval is problem-free even after longperiods. In fact, vehicle paintwork isprotected by the film during use, soresidual vehicle values are higher.

Wolska-Kinneging adds, AveryDennison Supreme Wrapping Films

are an extremely productive choicefor commercial users, because oftime savings during application, out-standing outdoor durability and theabsence of cosmetic paint damagewhen a vehicle is sold.

With the technology’s enhance-ment, the electronic industry and theindustrialization level have seen arapid growth. Meanwhile, screenprinting is more widely used in elec-tronics, glass and industrial printing. The manufacturers have introducedvarious inks specifically for glass, electronics and industrial printing. This article introduces one type ofthose inks.

Screen Inks

NZE24 Electronic Black andNZE25 Electronic White Screen Inksare launched by NAZDAR, whichhave been formulated specifically forglass electronics and industrial printapplications with the following per-formance criteria: high optical den-sity, thin dry ink deposit, excellentadhesion, excellent boiling water re-sistance, excellent MEK resistance,

and high temperature resistance.NZE24 and NZE25 can be tintedwith a range of Halogen-Free (HF)colors for white and black colormatching. NZE24 and NZE25 aretwo-part inks and must be initiated/catalyzed with a catalyst.

Ink PreparationNZE24 Black: Add 1 part

NZE684 Black Catalyst to 10 partsNZE24 Black ink by weight.

NZE25 White: Add 1 partNZE685 White Catalyst to 10 partsNZE25 White ink by weight.

The amount of catalyst shouldonly be based on the weight of theink and not include the weight of anyother additives. Thoroughly mix theinks prior to printing.

Pot life of the catalyzed inks isapproximately 5 to 7 hours.

TintingNZE24 Black: tint up to 45% with

NZE200 to NZE219 and NZE310colors by weight. Add 1 partNZE684 Black Catalyst to 10 partsof the total ink amount.

NZE25 White: tint up to 45% withNZE200 to NZE219 co lors ,

NZE310, and NZE24 Black.NZE25 White tinted up to 15%:

add 1 part NZE685 White Catalystto 10 parts of the total ink amount.

NZE25 White tinted 16% to 30%:add 1 part NZE685 White Catalystto 7 parts of the total ink amount.

NZE25 White tinted 31% to 45%:add 1 part NZE685 White Catalystto 6 parts of the total ink amount.

Example for calculating theamount of catalyst for a tinted whiteink: 125g of total ink containing a20% tint with a catalyst ratio of 1:7is calculated as:

100g white + 25g tint = 125g totalink

125g total ink 7 = 18g catalystNZE200 to NZE219 and NZE310

tinting colors are not recommendedto be used as stand alone items.

PrintingAdd only enough ink to the screen

to be able to print for 5-10 minutes.Add additional ink in small incre-ments throughout the print run tomaintain screen stability.

Maintain ink temperature at 65 -90 (18 -32 ) for optimumprint and cure performance. Lowertemperatures increase the ink viscos-ity, impairing flow and increasingfilm thickness. Elevated tempera-tures lower the ink viscosity, reduc-ing print definition and film thick-ness.

Pretest to determine optimumprinting parameters for a particularset of ink, substrate, screen, press, and drying / curing conditions.

Nazdar does not recommend inter-mixing of NZE Solvent-Based inkswith other inks besides the NZE Sol-vent-Based inks.

Cure ParametersGood air circulation is necessary

to remove the vaporized solvents.NZE24 Black: Bake the catalyzed

NZE24 Black ink at a maximum of180 (356 ) for 30 minutes.

NZE25 White: Bake the catalyzedNZE25 White ink at a maximum of120 (250 ) for 30 minutes.

Note: See ‘Tinting Colors’ sectionfor reference to heat stability for therange of tinting colors.

Common Performance AdditivesThe market specific performance

properties of the NZE Solvent-Basedinks should be acceptable for mostapplications without the need foradditives. When required, any addi-tives should be thoroughly mixedbefore each use. Prior to production, test any additive adjustment to theink. Inks containing additives shouldnot be mixed with other inks.

Reducer: Use RE183 Retarder toreduce the viscosity of these inks.Add up to 8% by weight. Over re-duction can reduce print definition, film thickness and adversely affectcure.

Example for additives: 100g Ink+ 10g Catalyst with 8% Reducer iscalculated as:

100g ink + 10g catalyst + 8.8g re-ducer

= 118.8g total

CleanupScreen Wash (Prior to Reclaim):

Use IMS201 Premium GraphicScreen Wash, IMS203 EconomyGraphic Screen Wash, or IMS206Graphic Auto Wash.

Press Wash (On Press): UseIMS301 Premium Graphic PressWash.

StorageStore closed containers at tem-

peratures between 65 -78 (18 -

China Digital Printing ProductionValue Shares a Small Proportion

While Shows a Big PotentialIn recent years, digital printing has

been the hot words in China, whichhas attracted the attention of manypeople. According to Mr. WangYanbin, Director of ManagementDivision of State Administration ofPress,Publication,Radio, Film andTelevision, there had been 728 print-ing enterprises in 2012 with the pro-duction value of RMB 6.3 billion, anincrease of over 80% than the previ-ous year.

The increase of 80% seems satis-fying, but it is compared to the basefigure of RMB 3.5 billion that is lesssatisfying.

China printing industry achieveda production value of RMB 951.013billion in 2012 with total 104,400printing enterprises. It means thatdigital printing only takes up 0.66%of the total production value, whiledigital printing enterprises only takeup 0.7% of the total. Compared tothe developed region such asAmerica, Europe and Japan wheredigital printing has held 10% shareof the printing industry, there stillexist a big gap.

It is fortunate that digital printinghas a big potential to grow thoughthe production value is not satisfy-ing. In the next years, digital print-ing will undergo a more rapidgrowth.

As an emerging industry, digitalprinting has been taken priority bymany traditional enterprises thathave made big investment for trans-

formation. Although digital printingstill needs time to be dominant, theprospect is optimistic and the returnswill be lucrative.

IDC repor ted in tu rn tha tChina’s serial dot matrix (SDM)printer market is expected tomaintain market size during thenext few years, despite overallshipment falling to 570,000 units,a year-on-year decrease of 10.5percent. While IDC acknowledgesthat the completion of the ruralmedical care cooperative projectand national tax reform projectslast year will cause the SDMprinter market to have limitedprocurement , it predicts that the

successive transformation frombusiness to added-value tax in allprovinces and cities, and updatedequipments procurement by allstate-owned banks in Q2 2013will help the market to maintainits size.

Antonio Wang, Associate Direc-tor of Computing Systems Re-search at IDC China, commented:

Policies on domestic de-mand stimulation and investmentprojects were also delayed, lead-ing to large-scale industry pro-curements in the hardcopy periph-erals market coming to a stand-s t i l l . I D C e x p e c t s C h i n a ’shardcopy peripherals market topick up again as the economy re-covers, government projects aresuccessively launched, and majorv e n d o r s a c t i v e l y p r o m o t eproducts.

InfoTrends’ Print on Demand: In-dia provides a greater understandingof the Indian print on demand mar-ket through the use of more than 20first hand interviews with Indianprint service providers (PSPs), deal-ers, as well as OEM vendors and dis-tributors over a span of three months.A c c o r d i n g t o L i o r M e r o n ,InfoTrends Director of Asia PacificOperations, "This research study isa strong example of InfoTrends’ ex-panding activities in Asia Pacific. Our on-the-ground personnel in mar-kets such as China, India, and Koreamake this type of insightful researchpossible."

InfoTrends Indian Country Ana-lyst Nakul Sharma adds, "The Indianprint industry today is comprised of

more than 250,000 printer servicesproviders of varying sizes with a to-tal turnover of around $20 billion.Almost 75% of print service provid-ers are family-owned businesses and, hence, their market value is closelyheld."

India represents not only a grow-ing population, but also a very largeprint market. At this time, the Indianprint market is still focusing heavilyon offset and other analog processes.Like many sectors of the Indianeconomy, it relies on exports for asignificant portion of its total rev-enue. Despite the size and healthygrowth rate of the Indian print mar-ket, information on PSPs’ equipmentpurchase decisions, applications, software, and workflows is scarce. As the market in India grows, it isimportant for vendors to know whatfactors are considered when PSPs arelooking to expand their businesses.J i m H a m i l t o n , D i r e c t o r o fInfoTrends Production consultingservices says, "My recent trip toPrintPack India was a real eye-

Most western companies from de-veloped economies that are lookingto enter this market should seek outthe larger, better capitalized Indianprint service providers. These are thePSPs most likely to open to change, since they are the most likely to be inor entering production new digital

BCC Research estimates the glo-bal market for industrial inkjet print-ing hardware and consumables wasvalued at $ 1.5 billion in 2011 and $1.9 billion in 2012. By 2017, themarket is projected to approach $ 7.4billion after increasing at a com-pound annual growth rate (CAGR)

of 30.8% since 2012.

ware make up the remainder.

Analyses of the main segments ofthe industrial inkjet market includeproduct decoration, electronics, medicine and life sciences, 3-Dprinting, and energy. Inkjet printingis beginning to have an impact onother types of applications, such asfood flavorings and fragrances, chemicals, and optics, but the de-mand for inkjet hardware andconsumables in these segments is toosmall to estimate reliably and islikely to have little impact on over-all sales between 2011 and 2017.

Product decoration (textiles, ce-ramics, glass, wall and floor cover-ings, food, etc.) account for the bulkof the industrial inkjet market. En-ergy conversion and storage devicesmade up the second-largest segmentin 2011, with 25% of the market, butthis segment is expected to drop intothird place by 2017, with 12% of themarket. Electronic devices should bethe second-largest application seg-ment in 2017, with a 15% marketshare.

The Asia-Pacific region is the larg-est geographical market for indus-trial inkjet technologies. Between2012 and 2017, Asia-Pacifics shareof the market should grow from 47%to 53%. Europe and North Americaare the second- and third-largest geo-graphical markets, respectively, bothwith around 19% to 20% of the mar-ket in 2011 and 2012. By 2017,Europes share seems set to declineto 16%, while the North Americanshare drops to 15%.

The market for inkjet printers inthe textile industry could grow to asmuch as $ 750 million per year by

2020, driven primarily by the tech-nologies potential for reducing thetime required to bring products tomarket. The market should growfrom $ 170 million in 2011 to $ 217.6million in 2012 and $ 747.7 millionin 2017. BCC assumes that printheads will continue to representabout 10% of the cost of a typicalinkjet print system.

Sales of inkjet inks for textileprinting should grow at about thesame rate as the production of inkjetprinted fabrics. Production of inkjetfabrics is projected to grow at aCAGR of 35%, which implies thatsales of inks should grow from $ 355million in 2011 to $ 479.3 million in2012 and more than $ 2.1 billion in2017.

By 2017, BCC estimates that glo-bal production of inkjet printed lami-nates could grow to nearly 200 mil-lion square meters at a CAGR ofapproximately 35% between 2011and 2017. This growth will be drivenby increases in the numbers of newhousing starts and residential reno-vations.
